So it has now been confirmed in the Kiwi press that NZ and DJ are in talks about a possible tie up between the two carriers. Talks have been on going for about the last six months and seem mainly to revolved around NZ/DJ co-operation on trans-tasman routes and NZ domestic routes, coupled with DJ possibly joining *A.

Of course recently VA have been getting very cosy with DL and Skyteam which it seems may have caused NZ to pull its finger out and getting talking with DJ. Certainly Australia domestically is rather lacking for *A and SQ, who were strongly opposed to any DJ membership of *A now seem to be on board.

So this must lead one to wonder what the wider implications will be for VS. Sure the Virgin Group do not have a majority shareholding in DJ anymore, since the sale to Toll Holdings and its subsequent floating. However there is fairly large influence amongst all the Virgin Group branded airlines, and one would have to wonder (especially given VS/NZ links) if DJ's co-opeartion with NZ could lead to a much wider co-operation between VS and *A.
