Planning to stay in the above for 1 night in September, as opposed to staying in the Mandalay Bay itself. We have been to Vegas before so are not going to do that much sightseeing, hence not worried about south strip location.
Interested to hear from anyone who has stayed here.

Hi ardbroilach,

I have not stayed at TheHotel ( only MBay several times) but my coments on the MBay facilities ( which you will be able to use)

-Pool area is fantastic with a beach & huge wave pool ( 4ft waves every 98 secons ( approx) also a lazy river and two smaller pools ) still large)
-The buffett is very good ( good value for money) and relaxing with some sitting areass overlooking the pool area
-Shark reef is worth a visit
-Spa/gym is around $27 per day ( also jogging/walking track outside the pool area is free)
-$10 taxi to the Factory outlet center south of airport
-Tram to Luxor & Excalibur
-Also walkway through Mandalay Place( shops) to Luxor then Excalibur
-M Bay rooms were very good
-Walkway to the restaurant areas very nicely done
-House of Blues

Any thing else....Oh yes... Lots & Lots of slot machines & tables :D

Have fun!!

Regards

Thanks TBS.
Unfortunately we are only spending the one night in Vegas this time - but that does mean more time for the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Zion, Bryce and San Diego.
Am hoping UC will deliver us relatively fresh so that we will get a bit of time on the Mandalay Bay Beach. We plan to go to the Bellagio buffet the following morning for breakfast before heading down to the Hoover Dam.

Hi,

I went to the Bellagio buffett for dinner 18 months ago and ,to be honest, was a little disapointed considering the price paid ( close to $30) .

The food serving counters seemed a liilte crowded and it seemed like everynoe was making a rush for everything just to troy it as it was the Bellagio.

The M Bay buffet ( around $25 ) was a lot more relaxing, the serving areas were less crowded and the selection of food was almost as good at the Bellagio giving a better dining environment.

The year before I did have one breakfast at the Bellagio and it was quite good .

If driving to the B from MB I would take advantage of valet parking ( for a $2 tip- it is worth it)

Thanks TBS.
I had heard (and read) that the buffets at The Bellagio and Paris were the best for breakfast, hence the plan to go there.
Normally wake up fairly early after flying west so planned to use this to avoid the breakfast crowds. Also, my wife really wanted to stay at The Bellagio but Airline Network had a 2 night minimum so we went for the MB instead.
If we do drive, I'll be sure to use the valet parking but had hoped to enjoy an early morning stroll along the strip, just in case my appetite needs building up.

Hi,

Remember that it will be a long way ( looks close but strip distances in LV are surprisngly long)from the MB to Bellagio. The hotels you will pass are after leaving MB: Luxor, Excalibur,New York New York, Monte Carlo and a longish stretch before the entrance to the Bellagio then up the covered passage way to the hotel. ( plus croosing a few roads)

You can save some distance by using the tram to the Excalibur but then you have to walk through the hotel to get to NY NY. There used to be a tram from Monte Carlo to the B. but I think that closed down due to the new tower construction. You will certainly build up an appetite.
( and of course you have to walk back).

I personally would not walk all the way up to the Bellagio especially for breakfast on the day that you leave ( and I like walking) ( but good luck in what ever you decide to do)

Regards

We did quite a bit of walking when we were in Vegas the last time (stayed in the Luxor) so I have a feeling that I'll end up driving.

Spent a week at THEhotel last month. It was superb and well worth the premium above regular MB rooms:

- room as big as my flat (725 sq ft), separate living room, 3 tellies, beautiful furnishings.

- has its own entrance / lobby, which is away from the MB casino, so no crowds, great check in / valet service. The lobby is beautiful - really understated class.

- really cool bar / lounge with great martinis and pool tables (a vegas first?)

- 24hr cafe, which does great breakfasts, is cheaper than the cafes in MB, and not full of fat people! You get way more food than you can eat, and it is way cheaper and nicer than the buffet.

- only a 2 minute walk to the tram, and right next to the new shopping arcade (great Italian restaurant there)

Other tips:

Moorea beach club is well worth the $20 entrance charge - adults only, really relaxed on weekdays, lively on weekends. You get great service and proper beach beds!

To get around, get a cab from the THEhotel entrance, and tell him to take the new Frank Sinatra Drive up behind the west strip - it is amazing, you can be at Caesars in less than 5 minutes!

Anything else you need, let me know.

Thanks Prof.
Only there for 1 night so we don't have plans to do a lot other than lounge around and adjust to the time difference.
Is the entrance/valet parking easy to find? I'll be driving from the airport and, after a long flight, will probably not be at my sharpest.

Easy drive - head north from the airport on Paradise, then left on Tropicana and left again at the strip. Go right just past the Luxor (signposted) and under the bridge then left into the garage

Thanks. I had read that the THEhotel was almost hidden away within the MB. Have done the airport to strip journey before so was just concerned with getting the right entrance to the right part of the hotel.

Thanx for all the brilliant info! We're going to THEHotel for a week at the end of August and now I'm really looking forward to it!!![8D]

Prof: you mentioned the Moorea Pool - where is that located? Near to THEHotel or not? Tried in vein to find a property site map to see where the pools etc are located. Someone told me that it took them 10mins to walk from THEHotel to the pools and had to be there by 9am or no beds!!! Not much of a holiday if you have to be up at the crack of dawn to get a bed[:(] I'll gladly pay the entrance to the Moorea Pool.
Thanx

Dont beleive the scaremongerers. The Moorea doesnt fill up on weekdays, and not on the weekends until 10 ish. But there is nothing to stop you going at nine, paying and reserving your beds and then going for brekker / back to bed. Once you have paid, the beds are yours for the day.

And the pool is a bit of a trek from THEhotel, but there is a bit of a shortcut - through the garage to the West Entrance of the MB (by Rum Jungle, then into the convention centre, down the escalator and left around the pool. A lot quicker than trekking through the casino :D

That's the week I usually go to Vegas! It's always good to return on the bank holiday Monday!

Thing is, trying to go a week earlier this year because i start my new job on the Tuesday and would rather get the big Vegas comedown out of the way before the serious work begins.

But I do go that week, i'll be next door at the Luxor and I might even see you on the flight!
