Ouch... but I can't imagine virgin will have come off with any less damage proportionate to their size.

I guess they could try but I bet BAA will point out that due to some of BA's own decisions and actions they prevented BAA from clearing the stands of snow etc and by that action part of BA's losses were their own fault.
What gets me is that on the one hand BA (and other airlines) demand that BAA spends X millions on snow clearing equipment etc yet fights tooth and a nail against any increase in the landing charges that pay for it.
