Just for ref, are you intending to add NNTP access to these forums at all pls?

Not easy to do. As I understand it, the NNTP server stores messages in a structured file system, whereas these forums are database backed. If my thinking is correct, supporting NNTP would require reproducing each data entry with a verbose text file + appropriate headers; and that would be an awful lot of disk space.
