Flight from Manchester to Paris with Air France was exactly on time and used Embraer aircraft. Seating was 1-2 and take off is almost fighter like. Drinks are free, but the French cuisine was a little bit of a let down. A small packet of pretzels was the sum total of this French gastronomic adventure. We also had a poor guy who had the OG who was somehow able to squeeze approximately 50 into 20 of set width. Due to the subsequent body displacement, he seemed unable to lower his arms below shoulder height for the rest of the flight. I am not sure if he got out of the seat, but as we got off the plane and walked up the skywalk, three Air France mechanics ran past armed with two tyre levers and a tub of Foie Gras muttering le gene obese est arriv_.
Flight to Strasbourg was on an Airbus A321 but again had the same delicacies as the previous flight. We also had two delightful children in front who decided that it would be great fun to recline their seats back and forward in order to try to spill our drinks. Eventually they settled down, although it did coincide with the guy next to me asking them if they wanted to see some puppies.
Flights to Amsterdam and Manchester with KLM had the same pretzels, possibly as they are part of the same team as Air France. I was able to secure exit row seats on all flights and the safety brief from the KLM crew was exceptional. I now feel I could strip and rebuild the exit door, such was the level of detail in her explanation of what was expected of me and how the door functioned.
I paid 457 for the flights and looking at the business class, I got a better deal with the exit row seats. Although, I do believe Business class passengers were given two packets of pretzels instead of one.
KLM flights on time to the minute. Security seemed very tight boarding the Manchester flight with the security guy checking my photo and me twice.
I also saw Garth Crooks, the ex footballer and now TV pundit, at Schipol as we passed on the moving walkways. I think he recognised me, but I blanked him.
Schipol and CDG were very good with lots of restaurant/eating choices and sitting areas. Travelling on a Sunday helped as crowds were almost zero.
Travelled into the Black Forest and it was gorgeous. Everything in bloom and a very pleasant 80 degrees F. Strasbourg is worth a weekend visit.
