Once the cases were checked in, it was off to find a bite to eat as we were both starving.
For those of you that have been to HKG airport you will know how massive the place is!!..it was our first time there.
Once fed and watered it was time to go to departures, again very orderley. I did try for the free upgrade at boarding ...no luck there though.!
As we boarded the plane, we were shown our pre booked economy seats by the freindly cabin crew.
As we settled into our seats the leg room was very good, in fact i would say on a par with PE on VA..!
The A340-300(yes i did make a mistake in another thread..!) taxied out, and rotated at about 14.50.
The back of the seat screen was interesting as it was all touch screen, allthough if you got fed up with that you could use the hand set which also doubled as a telephone. Air Mauritius use a system they call VOD, (Video On Demand) very much like V PORT.
Air Mauritius use ther two new A340-300s on the HKG-MU route and MU-LHR route, i don:t know if other aircraft in their fleet have VOD.
Over all the flight was excellent, the very helpful cabin staff the food and drink and the comfortable seats made the 10 hours fly by (no pun intended.!)
We arrived into Mauritius ahead of schedule touching down at 20:30 local. The next 2 hours however we spent queing at imigration..!(not impressed). Aparentley migrant workers had just flown in before us and their paperwork has to be checked in greater detail?.
After all of that it was off to the transport to the hotel for the next nine nights.......
All good things come to a end , and before you could say 'Southampton for the Premiership' , we found ourselves back on the big Air Mauritius silver bird, this time having managed to blag two emergency exit seats.
We both managed to sleep very well thro the night flight, to arrive fairley fresh into LHR 12 hours later at 08:00.
Summing up, i must say Air Mauritius were very good and VA will have stiff comp when they start that route in the Autumn.
I for one would fly with Air Mauritius again.
All the best..
Richard.
