This is the first leg of my trip to Tripoli. If you'd like to read more about my trip, see my blog post on the BPPA blog. http://thebppa.wordpress.com/2012/02/28 ... rom-libya/

I had dinner at the Frontline Club and then caught the 20:45 HEX to LHR.

There was no wait for checkin and I was promptly seen to. There was some discussion over my carryon bags (they were too heavy). My body armour weighed 10kg, and my camera bag weighed in at 15kg. They told me my limit was 8kg, which wasn't great. After a bit of a back and forth we agreed I would check the body armour in my current checked bag and I could carry on my photo gear. There was no way I was going to check £10,000 of equipment!!

There was no wait at security either and was through in just a few minutes. There was no gate assignment yet, but a nice BAA offical saw I was looking around and told me to head to gate 25. Arrived at the gate and had sat down outside for no less than a minute when it opened and I was through. I spent some time talking to my fellow passengers, including one who I would later meet up with in Benghazi, and another who was continuing on to Tripoli on my flight. It was his first time returning to the country in 30 years! (Yes you read that correctly)

Boarding was called at 22:15, and I was at my seat, 27A five minutes later. The plane was a quite ratty, and was still in old EgyptAir livery. The fabric was a bit dirty and torn, the latches for the tray tables were loose, the tray tables at to be forced back into the seat a bit, and wouldn't sit level when down....

There as no IFE except for overhead screens. The safety video was played in English and Arabic.

Pushback was at 22:36, with takeoff at 22:50. Dinner was served at 23:45. No more chicken so I was stuck with Salmon, which was a bit annoying as I had fish cakes for dinner at Frontline earlier.... It was still decent though, not as dry as I expected and still fairly flavourful. It was served with carrots, broccoli, and roasted potatoes. There was also a small fresh salad, roll, and chese and crackers. A chocholate cake/brownie was dessert.

I drifted off to sleep for a bit. We began our decent 45 minutes out, landing at 05:00, 15 minutes early. I was off the plane quickly and onto the bus to the terminal. Through transfers and on to departures for my connecting flight.
