AA3028 SAN-LAX 19 MAR 12 (COACH)

This was a short hop from San Diego to LAX after three days there where there was more rain than there has been in the last 10 years - typical! There is a separate commuter terminal at SAN which is used for LAX flights only. Check in took a while as they were trying to through check my bags but basically the computer said no several times. Security was quick with one of those total body scanners now banned in the UK. There was a shop / cafe in the departure lounge and four gates only. Boarding was on time - walking out to the ERD plane. The seating 1-2 -we had the exit row and there are only a total of 45 seats on board. There is very limited luggage space on board - nothing over the A seats ad small bins over B/C seats (with a closet at the aft.....or was that the toilet!). Left on time - odd being on a flight with only one cabin crew member. Great views of SAN as the airport is really close to town. The flight time was only 26 minutes today and therefore a modified drinks service was offered - water or water! Cabin crew individual was cheerfulmand friendly. Reall great views of the Californian coast line - plane only goes to 10,000 feet so much lower than normal flights. Odd arriving into LAX on such a small plane and off to the American Eagle remote terminal. You then need to get a minibus back to Terminal 4 - we then headed out and off to the international terminal.

Bit different! Do you happen to know what the type/make plane was?

Last time I flew that leg, it was an Embraer RJ. That was good as it's an upgrade from the old SAAB SF340 which used to take nearly 40 mins !

Yeah, wondered that, but an Embraer RJ with 1 and 2 in coach?

If I remember rightly (it was 2 years ago !) It was an RJ45 - standard config is 1+2

That's what AA and UA used to fly on this "commuter" route, though UA has increasingly switched to CRJs on this route, even the occasional 700. The turboprops were a real blast :D

LAX-SAN and LAX-PSP are two of my favorite flights in the US for the panoramic views, that's for sure. Thanks for the report.

Must admit, never liked the approach to SAN in a turboprop, espcially if you come over the land route - always seemed too fast and too steep !
