After a very work meeting in Hong Kong, it was time to start the prolonged journey home to the UK! I'll make the return trip reports brief and just highlight the interesting bits for each sector.

Hong Kong airport
RJ check in at Terminal 2, which is more like a shopping centre than an airport terminal. Very few airlines use this terminal and most seem to be more low cost. Check wasn't open when we arrived (just under three hours before the flight). When it did open, bags were checked and tagged for LHR and boarding passes for both flights printed and a voucher for the generic HKG airport lounge. We then headed downstairs, through immigration and security both of which were fairly quiet - maybe a benefit of flying from Terminal 2. We then headed off on a transit to Terminal 1, where all of the departure gates are.

Lounges
Although we were offered access to the traveller lounge in the airport (a lounge anyone could use if they paid), we decided to head to one of the CX lounges. We choose The Pier nearest the gate we would be boarding from. Very spacious with lots of seats, windows over the apron, "the long bar" (which was very long and had a good range of drinks and cocktails available), self-service food areas (chinese and other stuff), cook to order noodle bar, showers and a huge computer area (must have been 60-70 computers). Had a great shower there, a couple of drinks at the long bar and some nibbles. Initially our flight wasn't on the departure screen (only the CX anc CX codeshares), although when I asked about if it was on time, it was then added - very good service.

The Flight
Left the lounge when boarding came up and the flight was pretty much boarded when we got there - only 4 people in Crown Class (well a couple of security on top of the fare paying passengers!). After take-off there was the usual drinks and this was followed by a light cold supper service. Neither of us had eaten in the lounge as had thought this would be a hot meal flight. The tray came with open beef and salmon sandwiches, a small shrimp tartlet, fresh fruit salad and two cakes. Everything was good apart from the beef which looked very unappealing.

Overall impression
Not too bad a flight - nice and relaxing with good service but the cold supper tray was a bit of a let-down
