I'm posting this trip as I did a few searches on the internet about Lufthansa and couldn't find too much information, and figured it may be of use to someone. I also took some photos which I will add when I remember how to do it.

When looking for flights to Munich, Lufthansa kept coming back as the cheapest airline to fly.

Having in recent times flown to Europe on various low cost airlines (Monarch = great, Easyjet = meh, and Ryanair = NEVER EVER EVER EVER AGAIN), I wasn't sure what to expect from Lufthansa. I was pleased to get baggage allowance, allocated seating and the promise of free drinks and snack, and thought that if the seats were rubbish it wouldn't matter because of the short duration of the flight. There is a business class on these flights, but as far as I could tell, the seats were identical to that of economy except the middle seat of the three was left vacant. The lounge would have to be something special to make it worth the extra cost!

Check in was done online the night before, and went straight to bag drop at their desks in Terminal 1. We were waved over to the business check in, and the check in lady was quite surly and miserable, but then it was very early.

I picked the red eye for the outgoing trip, much to the groans of my travelling companions, but I thought this would mean that we would have more time to spend in Munich than if we wasted half the day flying. Turns out this was both good and bad as although we were in Munich for kaffee und kuchen, the flight was rammed. And rammed with a number of families with very small children, most of which seemed to scream the whole way to Germany. Thankfully, the flight is only two hours, and being armed with an ipod and some podcasts, I was able to drown out the racket.

The seat, although VERY hard, had great legroom, and was for the most part quite comfortable. The one complaint about the seat was that there was no real headrest, and having had a car crash recently in which I suffered whiplash, my neck was starting to hurt by the end of the flight.

We were late in taking off as the plane had to be de-iced and apparently they had closed most of Munich airport's runways because of heavy snowfall, and for most of the flight we kept having announcements for those with ongoing flights. I thought it was great that they kept passengers informed about what was going on. The flight attendants were very polite and helpful.

The drinks and snack run started about 40 minutes into the flight, we were all offered 2 drinks, which were gratefully accepted, and possibly one of the weirdest hot wraps I've ever eaten. It was a scrambled egg, sun-dried tomato and green pepper thing, which whilst not unpleasant, wasn't entirely delicious.

The flight passed quite quickly and despite the delay in taking off, and a large amount of circling, we arrived in Munich only about 30 mins later than we should.

I left this flight thinking that I would not hesitate to fly Lufthansa again, and since I've found out that they have an A380 (cheers Mighty Planes!), am now looking at destinations they fly to as we start to plan our honeymoon!

On a completely not unrelated note, if you haven't been to Munich, do go, it's splendid!
