Hello all, great site and loads of fab info.

Im off on my first Virgin flight on Saturday to New York, UC courtesy of work which I am really looking forward too.

Couple of questions that I couldnt find the answer to!

At the Heathrow clubhouse there is a small spa pool, but do they give you a bag to store your wet shorts in or do they provide this and towels?

Also, I understand that they give you an adaptor to power your laptop onboard, but I have a dell 9300 laptop, but on their list they didnt have a cable for this, but I thought that they are all standard?

Can anyone advise.

Thanks,

Paul

Welcome Cheekychappie

You will find a lot more detail to your questions by using the search feature, but to briefly answer;

They have a spinner or wringer for your swimming shorts and they do provide towels. I would take your own bag as I doubt the shorts will be totally dry.

When flying UC you can ask for a Empower adapter and I believe they do have adapters for Dell laptops (9300 doesn't ring a bell to me though). Someone has posted a picture of the compatability card which I am sure you can find by searching, or someone else will provide the link to.

Enjoy the flight

Thanks for the link, i did look through that before and saw that mine wasnt present, but was concerned by the part that says do not give out if not compatable, has anyone else taken there own lead on board or know what the connection is going into?

Cheers,

Thanks, I did have a good try with the search feature but was using the wrong words by the looks of things!

Cheekychappie,
Love that name! Welcome to V-Flyer. We're glad to have you aboard.

The EmPower adapter is used on VS. You can purchase one in most electonics store (I was able to find one quite easily on my recent trip to London). I would suggest taking your power cord and transformer with you to the store to ensure that everything matches up correctly.

Regards,
Chuck-

I know what you mean Cheekychappie. Sometimes you bung in all the words you can think of and it still doesn't come up with useful info. I did have a go at searching on the word "shorts". It came up with this thread specifically about the spapool which may interest you ;). I think the picture of Howard gives a pretty good idea of the sort of equipment that is available to enhance your bathtub experience.

Cheeky - to be extra sure I just take my own power adapter. Either Empower or iGo. That way I know it'll work!

so just to be clear, if i do a search on the web for either an empower or iGo adaptor for my dell laptop, the end of that should work in the Virgin power point?

Thanks,

Cheeky

I have the iGO system which defo works with the socket in UCS. I have also found that the iGO system tips (iTips) are fairly easy to find, but check the iGO site first to ensure they actually do one for your laptop.

Yes both have ends that will work in a UCS Power Point.

do you guys know if these are available in the airport? had a look online but shops in uk cannot guarantee delivery before flying on Sat!

Otherwise how receptive do you think the flight attendant will be to allowing me to have a look at the leads they already have (even though that pdf says not to?)

Hi Cheeky,

If you go to the targus website, they have a tool to tell you if they do a powertip for your laptop. A lot of the new laptops will have tips but they will only power the laptop, they won't charge it (laptops are getting very power hungry nowadays!). Try sending a mail to the UK support team on the Targus website to double check - I did this recently and they sent a tip out free of charge via the post for my new Dell (D800).

Thanks,
Richard

OK I'm not up to speed with the technology stuff so this may sound like a daft question to most of you.
How does this power thing work for your laptop?

Is it just a lead that plugs into the power supply at your seat?
What are the tips for?

Also why I am in the 'daft' question mode, I may take my laptop on Hols in April, it'll make booking hotels rooms etc easier whilst we are away. If I take a travel adaptor will I be able plug it into a 110v power socket to use my normal UK power supply/charger?.
Will it see its 110v or will I have to twiddle with something on my Laptop?.

Thanks,
Tim

The power is from the seat, a you say. The nib is to convert the generic plug on the end of the lead to the plug you need to put into your PC.
As to 110V, it depends on your charger. Mine is OK with 110V, but many aren't. Have a look at the 'box' on the power lead and see what it says about input voltage. If it says 110/240V input you are OK. If not you are prob wasting your time.
Now me answering an IT question has to be a first!

Thanks Jeremy.

Its says 100-240V. So should be OK

Cheeky/Tim,
Also, best to check to determine whether your particular laptop is supported for airline use. I did not when I purchased mine (HP) and sadly, I found out too late that it uses too much power to work aboard most aircraft.
