So,

I am flying ARN-LHR-SFO with a brief night stopover in LHR tonight, my question is.

Should I get BA to check my luggage all the way through to SFO and not have it priority tagged with the longer wait (never experienced this so have no idea how big a difference this is at SFO), or should I wait around in T1 arrivals hall for the 45 minutes it takes to get my luggage out, carry it around and then check it myself tomorrow morning to get a priority tag on it.

Maybe I should save my priority tags and apply them myself for interline luggage.

Cheers

I'm not entirely sure on this, and others may correct me, but I don't think that BA interlines with VS. The last time I was able to use them they would only check my luggage through to LHR

They did interline me in Decemeber from Stockholm. Did cause a lot of confusion though, a VS booked ticket on mainly VS fights printed on BA stock :).

If you're through ticketed even BA should be nice and interline your bags.

I wouldn't bother picking them up.

But, I have no urgency in LHR compared to the ability to finish my trip quickly and get home once I reach SFO, this is what I am struggling with.

Yes, I am through ticketed.

I see from the Itineraries Forum that you're travelling UC so BA will put a Priority label on your bags, albeit not a VS UC label.

However, whether it will make a differenc is another matter. I did a BA / VS interline yesterday from AMS to BOS. Bag arrived in BOS fine but didn't come off in the first batch but then none of the UC bags did!

BA will put a priority tag because they see the UC booking? That sounds optimistic :). I am only in Y on the ARN-LHR jump..

OK, I was in CE with BA AMS-LHR, so that may have made a difference. But they should do it, if you ask them to.

^When you check in with VS it will register that you're in J so your bags should be loaded into the J bin.

That's why i wouldn't bother picking your bags up.

Was having dinner last night at Outback again with my fellow Aerospace students. One job that all of use have had was working the ramp for various airlines (domestic and international) in many cities.

One common thing we talk about is how we put status bags in first (last off) and some spoke about mishandling status bags, especially over airline bags.

Looking back personally I should have not done that but the people with status were the ones showing up after bag cut-off time and trying to play super VIP.

Point being maybe leaving the collection of status cards off our bag is a good idea. I suggest just one. Some people have the AA lifer tag. I would not suggest putting that on your bag as AA Lifer/Million Mile status is earn from all sources including non-flight mileage accrual and ramp crew know that it really does not show loyality like other airlines one million mile program.

{/rant off}

(Not aimed at Sky but just happened I had a recent converstation)

Luggage checked in all the way no problem at all.

Bags got BA priority tags (maybe that is because I am ECAG) and transfer tags, and with instructions to show the bag tags to the VS checkin staff tomorrow.

So nice not to have to deal with a heavy bag of diving gear.

(Sitting in the nice Finnair lounge in Arlanda T2 watching a couple of aircrafts getting deiced).

And just to update everyone, the priority seemed to have work, my bags where 5th of the belt in SFO.

Took me 30 minutes from touchdown to be outside the terminal, not bad at all.
