Who's to say what less regular flyers will want?

It is mainly the less frequent flyers who are coming up with the more abstract concepts and the frequent flyers, like yourselves that can see where these concepts would fail! :D

An I-Tunes download so if we hear something we like we can plug in our USB and purchase there and then.

I like that idea.

I can see such an Idea being of more use in Y where it is often too cramped to comfortably set up a laptop.

The more this design progresses, the more it seems that it would be easily implemented into economy and premium economy e.t.c

Thanks

Where I do like the card reader idea... I think they would cost a fortune for VS to maintain. When they're not in use, some ignorant careless passenger will be poking at them, or letting their children cram gum and candy into them. I know I'd be pretty dissapointed if I knew it were there, intended on using it, then sat down to find it caked up with gum.

I think as far as the chat goes... the problem you'll have is by offering MSN. If you really intend for people to use it. I know MSN messanger is popular in the UK, but AIM is far more popular in the US (especially with people in my age bracket and younger who have grown up with the technology). For us, AIM is more common than calling someone to plan an evening outing, and expressions like brb, lol, etc, are more common than actually writing everything out. It's become a way of life, and I think simply limiting the service to MSN will cause people in your US market to not use the service. That being said, if you offer all of the major services: MSN, AIM, Yahoo Messanger, then you're in business, and you're catering to many more people.

I don't know how far you're going with your proposal, but how about adding in Connexion by Boeing services, like LH has done on some of their aircraft. And please- whole aircraft, not just J for those of us who can't fly up front all the time ;)

I have a Latitute X1, which is nice and small, and I have no problems using it in Y- but a pay-per-use wireless internet connection from Connexion by Boeing would be a nice nice addition.

Also, meant to add...

I've thought that a multiple carrier flight tracking/status system would be helpful for those people with connecting flights, or meeting people coming off flights.

This could be as simple as licensing feed from FlyteComm.com or a similar service. Passengers could just plug in their airline and flight number and see the status of a flight.

Even cooler would be the ability to stream each airport's gate information, although I don't see that happening (just a smidge complicated), but then you could see what gate your connecting flight is departing from.

Current TSA wait times?

As I mentioned before, I think weather would be helpful, where you can put in a city/state/country/etc and see the current weather (updated on the aircraft every 30 minutes or so). How about a global currency exchange rate table?

Some good ideas there, i also like the i-tunes direct download concept.. a card reader would be more suitable in upper class, where there are fewer children from what ive heard. the exchange rate would be accessible via the internet browser. But for those incapable of searching there could be a link and a converter on the virgin website.

On the MSN front, i was using MSN as an example because MSN is a well known client, the system would be Virgin specific, and would be designed based on the best features of all chat applications.
