Hi everyone,

Wonder if you can help me. Flying with VS next month LGW-BGI - UC. I assume we will be having the delights of NOVA and was wondering about these DVD players Virgin offer. Are they to the whole aircraft or just to UC pax? How many do they carry onboard and how many extra films do they offer?

Thanks,

Tom

Hi Tom

Yes, there are a number of DVD players available to passengers onboard the aircraft. Passengers travelling in Upper usually get first dibs but ive asked for one in PE before.

They have a limited number on board (not sure of actual figures but id say definately under a dozen) with a selection of films, ive only used them on flights ex-LHR but im sure its the same ex-LGW, from what i can remember there are a number of recent movies and a selection of comedy (i have watched their Little Britain DVD too many times!) There are also a few kids films, so generaly a fair choice. Im sure there would be something for everyone but its not a huge library, like the tape library on BA or anything. Really the DVD players are a back up IFE, and if there are problems with the IFE then Upper passengers will be the ones who the DVD players go to

I always have my laptop with me and carry a few favourite DVDs with me to watch, so i have asked for the DVD player and watched my own films on it (because the in-seat power was not available for me to use my laptop for that purpose) so if you have any films you particularly like you could always stick them in your hand luggage?

Thanks,
Sarah

This may be totally useless information, but that have a trolley load. I don't mean trolley load as in the slang for a lot, but actually a dedicated in-flight trolley for DVD Players and batteries. I saw the crew packing one away on one of my flights and I would estimate that had more than 20 onboard. However, I also noted that the problem was dead batteries.

To be honest I always thought that they would not be given to Y pax unless a screen was playing up.

Panasonic DVDs are onboard (between 4 and 9depending on fleet) they replaced the SonyWatchman some 5-6 years ago however.. where the SonyWatchman and the early days of the DVD were offered as a service (Skyshow) they are now primaraly onboard as a recovery tool for crew to use in IFE failed seats.

This however doesn't mean to say that a UCS customer can ask for one if available.

there are a selection of titles to name a few ( nighty night, catherine tate, football factort, fools and horses, batman begins?, and other films cant think of right now) where there is lap top power you dont need a battery but the crew can issue a laptop lead and tip.

best bet is if you have a laptop, take that with your own discs and watch on a bigger screen
