With all the discussion that goes on here about, why virgin should/shouldn't fly this route or use that aircraft type or price their seats in such a way. It has got me wondering if there is an airline management equivilant of the likes of the Premiership Manager games.

I remember playing an economic simulation type game called "Great Britian Ltd" (I think) on a BBC model B at school when i was a kid. It basically involved making budget decisions and things and seeing if you could keep the country in profit.

Reading between here, pprune, anet et al I reckon there is a good market of closet SRB's who reckon they could do a better job!

I'd love to give it a try, so come on you programming types, write us a Virgin Manager game!

I just ordered it too [:#] What will those people think!? 2 orders in half an hour!? [:o)]

EDIT -

Minor problem - there's a game called Airline Tycoon Evolution - is this an expansion pack for the original Airline Tycoon or is it a completely (better) new game!? I hope it's the first otherwise I'll have to cancel my order and order this one! [:X]

AFAIK, they are made by two seperate companies, so i *think* they are copies of essentially the same game.

I had a demo copy of the original Airline Tycoon a while back, but i think its time for me to invest in a proper one!

Flight Sim is also great fun, i really got into that about 6 months ago! Get up in the morning, jump in your 744 headed for SFO from LHR, take off, switch to auto-pilot, then when you get home its time to land it! Awesome!!

Thanks,
Sarah

Go to say I have playing Airline Simulation for a little while now and I love it. Experimenting with Marketing, maint, differing aircraft (I currently have a fleet of A380's and Singapore Airlines claim they are the first!).
Haven't tried Airline Tycoon but the other Tycoon games were a little gamish for me. Airline simulation is good, if very hard to get through your first couple of years. Oh and plus it take up to 30 minutes to process a quarters results if you have a large fleet with a lot of competition and a lot of schedules.

Yeah, airline simulation is really good and as p17blo said, it's probably a bit more realistic than airline tycoon. However, I really struggled when I first got the game as I hadn't realised you need to change the price[:I];)

Oh lord another FS nut !..I think I told Bazz this little story when you were all over here...I used to be into FS9 bigtime..well after a few months I got a little bored so joined Vatsim..ended up with a nut job for a co-pilot...don't ask,you have to be a FS nerd [:I],so after a few flights and hearing him over the headset say how he could do a better job of flying than me I decded to show him who was better.

Plugged in a flight SFO - LHR in a 744 VS colours..let him taxi it out and take off (nice guy) at about 8k I said "capt has the stick",turned the beast upsidedown and took it up to 35k feet, flew it all the way to London upsidedown...took it back down to 10k and told him to land the thing...again..you HAVE to be a FS nerd to laugh at that.

ROFL...yeah I play FS quite a lot too, once I got bored with the original game, I downloaded loads of aircraft and traffic packages to keep my interest. I love flying dash 8's across various caribbean islands. Gotta try highflyers' method of leaving it on auto all day [i]. Usually I just turn the simulation rate up to 32x (I think) and let it fly at 10,000 Mph [B)].

Really, I've never changed my prices. Seemed to have got along just fine. Maybe I'm undercharging!
