Help - I think I've just made a big mistake!?

My wife and I have 60k and 70k miles in each of our accounts, and we're trying to get to the magic 100k each for some UC redemptions.

We've just booked 6 of us to go UC to Barbados and have done the "miles more friends" thingy to introduce the other 4, which I think means we should get 4 x 15k bonus miles from them plus the usual 15k miles for my wife and me for the trip itself.

In my eagerness I logged in as me and sent them the invite to enrol in the flying club, completed their enrolments with them etc etc.... then realised this probably means all the bonus miles will get directed to my account rather than shared with my wife.

It's not that I'm a caring sort of guy at all!!!! it's just that I think this means I will end up with about 145k (i.e. 70k + 4x15k + 15k) and my wife with just 75k (i.e. 60k + 15k) - poor love!!

.... but does that mean I can now get an UC redemption but she can't... or will Virgin allow us to combine our points if we are on the same redemption booking.

If not (God I hope not, cos she'll kill me), then anyone any suggestions for how I can fix this quickly before they all take the flights and the credits are awarded??? Our 4 friends all have their accounts numbers etc so I suppose they can't decline at this stage.

I guess I just want someone to say that Virgin will allow us to combine our points when we redeem. Happy with lies in response to make me feel better!

Hmm. Well, rewards can be redeemed per one-way, so technically 50k per one-way leg rather than 100k per return (allowing you to use at least SOME of your other half's mileage).

That aside, I wonder... IF your wife sent a new "batch" of MMF cards, to different email addresses (yes, your friends would probably need different addresses to those they already signed up with for now) - and handed those NEW numbers across at check-in, those miles would be credited to your wife's referring account.

Technically, it's not quite "clean" in respect of the terms & conditions, but I dare say it's possible... [:w]

If you need an escape then take the miles on your account and gift your wife the necessary extra - just check out the VS web site here for info.

Divorce worries sorted[y]

"2.22 Purchasing and Gifting of Flying Club Miles

a) A member can purchase a total of 25,000 miles each calendar year, in increments of 1000 miles, for their own account and/or for the accounts of another member/other members. There is no limit to the number of members you can purchase for so long as the total number of miles purchased per person does not exceed 25,000 in each calendar year."

I wouldn't worry. With your MMF bonus and your return to Barbados will put you just over 146K and your wife at just over 76K

So all you need to do is spend £75 buying 4000 miles onto your account and you can book yourself a return and the wife a single and use 50K of her miles for the other single.

So with the approx taxes and buying the miles you and the wife will get return UC for about £220. [y]

There are also very simple ways of making the 4K you will need. For instance if you all pool your duty free shopping on the way out and get your points on a BAA worldpoints card £500 spending (which with the amount we spend everytime we go through an airport and with six of you shouldn't be that hard) gets you 500 miles. Then why not buy a couple of cases of virgin wines giving you at least another 1.5K

Half the fun when we fly on rewards is the way you go about earning them apart from just flying. Enjoy!!

Ade beat me to it... I was going to suggest you just purchase the other miles with the new "buy miles" option :)

I think that once your friends have signed up to Flying Club, they will have difficulty signing up again using your wife's referral. I believe there are some checks on the data you supply to weed out people who are already signed up (possibly using the date of birth).

So the only way is to use the various other methods for mileage earning and redemption, as outlined above.
