Hi

I've just ben informed by Virgin Holidays that the Buena Vista Palace hotel is undergoing some decoration work from May to August this year. They claim that work will be done on a floor by floor basis and will not disturb guests.

This is the 2nd time I have stayed at this hotel and the 2nd time 3 weeks before departure that I have received a letter advising me of decoration works. I am sure we all like a nicely decorated and maintained hotels, but how long in advance do you think VH are aware of this work.

On a previous holiday as I was informed at MCO that my hotel was not available. I thought this was a bit off, especially as the day before we had contacted VH to make sure that all was OK with our destinations.

Its a case of when the hotel bothers to tell them I am afraid. I am sure you wont be disturbed and will have a great time. I would be surprised if you even notice aything going on very much.

I'm sure your right. The last time I stayed here they were decorating the outside of the building which restricted use of the balcony, so I was a little concerned.

Firstly I will say straight off that I love Wyndam Hotels in general so I may be a little biased, but i've found that they tend to do a better job of keeping guests "away" from work being carried out around the hotel so with any luck your trip should not be harmed in any way, however if there is a problem get hold of the front desk straight away.

This is where we stay on our annual pilgramage to disney. It was taken over last year in about July/August by a new company called LXR. They decided to revert back to the palaces original name.

The LXR Group are formed from the backers that turned hotels like the Savoy around and are concentrating on completely doing the palace up.

I spoke to the manager the other day and work seems to be going well and on schedule to be mainly done by Autumn with all new rooms from carpets to beds to lamps and everything. In the mean time they are redoing a floor at a time but they are taking three floors out of service each time as a buffer zone above and below.

Depending on when you go some of the public areas may have some work being done but they seem quite sure that guests are not going to be disturbed in their rooms or around the public areas.

We've stayed at the palace for two weeks for the past seven years and even when redecorating they keep the disturbance to a minimum. I really would not worry about it and you may be lucky to get a new style room.

One last thing whatever you do don't bother looking at the reviews on tripadvisor, we, our family and friends that have spent the time out there with us have never experienced anything that people comment on. The staff are lovely and welcoming and the facilities are excellent and you're in the best location. Enjoy.

Thanks for the note Ade, perhaps I should find out what floors have been refurbed and ask for one in advance.

I usually take the comments on tripadvisor with a pinch of salt. Generally they are people with high expectations.

I think the location of this hotel is superb. Hope you have a good time in Orlando too.

They've done the smaller towers and seem to be working up (but this could have changed) They use to be very good at room requests so if I was use give it a go, especially as you're with VH as they don't normally have a lot of British staying there (it's not that popular with VH customers for whatever reason) so most US guest stay a few days or are on convention.

Stayed at the BVP and had a wonderful time. Did not get a new room as it was busy for Memorial Weekend. Still had a great time though.
