someone correct me if I have misunderstood the Gifting of Miles ?

I can ONLY give miles as a gift if I buy them.

and

I can NOT give miles already in my account ?

I have over 100k miles in my account and wanted to gift 60,000 to a firnd, so I assumed 2 batches of 30,000 would do the trick as long as I pad the transaction fee, but seems they want me to buy miles before I can gift them.

maybe I am having a bad hair day, but I can not believe this is correct.

anyone ?

What you're refering to is a TRANSFER, as opposed to buying miles (as a "gift") for someone else. The gifting of miles is now done through points.com, as a miles purchase for deposit into another member's account.

Gold card holders have the ability to transfer miles from their SSA (silver, gifted) account or from their "minors" red accounts. Outside of that, Virgin do not allow the transfer of miles between Flying Club accounts, I'm afraid.

Your 100k miles are yours to spend, and that's where the buck stops, I'm afraid...

But there is nothing to stop you booking a reward flight or an upgrade for somebody else so you can always effectively "gift" the miles in that way

Nope - you can use your miles for anyone else's ticket, whether you're travelling with them or not. The only condition is that you have to make the booking for them, through Flying Club.
