My friend was actually one of the supervisors on this particular flight. The main problem with the food is that VS regulations regarding service of food means that it must not fall below a certain temperature. On this flight food was not fully cooked before the diversion and but could not be reheated.

I don't think anyone is faulting the crew here. They did the best with the tools they had, and chose to into discretion, rather than cause the flight to be nightstopped in SNN.

I don't disagree at all with the hot food being thrown away. Food poisoning isn't nice, as others have already pointed out.

I'm guessing the "packet of biscuits" the OP referred to were the "shaved down" second snack service.

My critism as usual is that VS shot themselves in the foot (well, our beloved VS beancounters did) by shaving down the second food service so much that the crew were left with nothing else to give out.

My thinking is that if the sandwich meal was still provided, then the crew could have served that.

Yay, way to go, VS' shortsighted beancounters!

Can't agree more, the Brownie/Shortbread thing can hardly be called a food service!! The crew don't seem to think too much of it either. Beancounters at VS seem to have shut themselves well away from the real world at present.

I'm sorry but take out your 'incident' - lets say 4 hours - and there was stil plenty of time to serve something. I am pretty sure the crew did not go hungry. I suppose its all down to education and manners with someone has the professionalism to advise what is happening- some people have it in spades others think it applys to others. And some (it seems quiet a few from what we hear) just should not be in the industry of customer service.
Rolls, the desserts and the salads all dont need reheating in a steamer. I suppose the fridges were turned off as well. And as another poster mentioned - sandwiches.

The items that did not need heating were served as I heard it. As for sandwiches - well the VS beancounters got rid of them in favour of a styrofoam cup of tea/coffee and a shortbread or brownie!!! Crew don't need berating here, Mike's point about cutting back service too far is so correct.
