I was at a meeting recently I am on the Service team for the A380 and ignore all talk of us not getting it we are. There will also be no A380s flying to anywhere from LGW/MAN only LHR.

There are lots of exciting things in the pipeline for it.

VITB, the piece says:

...and (VAA) plan to operate the aircraft to New York (JFK), Hong Kong, Sydney, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Tokyo...

Does that concur with what you are being told?

Will be doing JFK and SFO then maybe HKG-SYD and DXB

Would it really suit the DXB route? The flight i was on last saturday was pretty much empty in UC, 70% in PE and probably about 50% in Y. On a 340-300 too...

Must admit I think when this subject was discussed a few months ago it was determined that all 380s would be operating from LHR. I was quite surprised (albeit pleasantly) to hear it being discussed with regard to MCO.

I entered the competition and suggested a childrens' story area with a dedicated sky nanny reading stories to kids during a number of 20 minute sittings during the flight. Didn't realise that they were not actually looking for serious suggestions. Oh well [ii]

All the following routes JFK SFO HKG SYD LAX NRT DXB.

Dont forget that by the time we get the A380 the DXB route will be fully established. FYI DXB is the 2nd most popular route out of LHR after JFK.

EX for E.G have 14 flights a day from LHR to DXB

There are about 8 flights a day between london and dubai so I don't think VS will have much trouble with loads once the route is more established. However, that's a bit OT and has seen much debate in the past couple of months.
AS VITB said, it's unlikely at this stage that VS will be pulling out of the A380 orders. Denzil commented on how difficult it is being launch customer so maybe VS doesn't want a repeat of the problems with A346 so have chosen to wait a while before they take delivery of them

VS.

Still very early Days for DXB - Loads will increase significantly over the course of the year. It maybe take until Sept/Oct time before the VS PR machine really starts to show some benefits, also Its bloody hot in Dubai over the summer..... I wouldn't fancy it as the name sugests!!!!!!! [:I][B)][:0]

Once the 380 becomes availale to VS I believe that DXB will be a dead cert for one of the early routes - Revenue will drive it, It's also short sector and only one aircraft would need to be deployed on the route at all times......:D

VITB, i think you'll find that EK (not EX) have 13 flt's a day from the UK not LHR (5 from LHR, 3 from LGW, 2 from BHX, 2 from MAN & 1 from GLA). Most of these are operated by B777 aircraft & i believe the plan is for all 5 LHR flts to be operated by the A380.

Gut feeling & my money would be on the A380 doing JFK flts on EIS, like the A346. This gives the best options for crew training, time on the ground at LHR for maint & pax exposure. The HKG/SYD would be in the pot as soon as VS feel happy with reliability. As other forums mention, other aircraft are being looked at by the bean counters (A330 anybody!!), but the A380 will happen but not to as large an extent as Singapore, Emirates & Ethihad.
