On 10th August 2006 we were booked on flight VS23 to LAX . At the gate we boarded a bus and were transferred to the apron at T5 to board the airbus A340-600. Is this normal procedure or was this due to the heightened security of that day?

John

LHR are using the stands at T5 as remote stands. VS and other airlines are all using them. It helps with the congestion as sometimes in the past you had to wait ages once landed until an A/C departed and a stand to then become available before you could disembark.

John, we have handed over 7 completed stands to HAL. Opps. So they used them to park and service aircraft for outbound flights sometime they load the baggages over there and bus the passengers over or they tow them back to the gates at T3, where the passengers board and these stands are also used to park night stoppers too. :)

Like someones already said T5 remote stands have been used for a while now when LHR becomes too busy and airlines either have the choice to wait hours for a free gate stand or just get bussed from T5.

On that fateful day on 10AUG any free space was being used, but bussing pax to T5 wasn't exclusive to that day, it happens every day!

I've been bussed to a remote T5 stand with SQ as well.

But what will happen when T5 opens, and BA grab all those stands (presumably), will T1/T4 become overflow for T3, or is it expected to all settle downthen with the overall rearrangement of the terminals?

When T5 opens, airlines will be moving out so maybe this will help. When is T2 closing for LHR east?[:?]
