Shame it's being referred to as the chav route, there are some of the world's best and most beautiful hotels on Mauritius that are definitely not chav (look up Le Saint Geran, it is my most, most (twice to indicate MOST) favourite place to hole up for two weeks and rest.

I'd think UC stands a good chance of being full to MRU, BAs club cabin, and first, have always been when I've flown.

While I'm delighted with the option to fly out there UC, I'm slightly despondent that this beautiful place might start getting busy ... with chavs [:0]

My definition of a chav certainly is not someone who can afford a holiday to Mauritius! Forgive me but last time I looked at a broucher for Mauritius there were no Costa Del Sol style high rise apartment blocks, or people eating in a Cafe doing the full english for 2 euros!


I find this chav phrase rather amusing. Having lived in New Zealand it is interesting to see that the South Pacific islands, somewhere that most Brits would class as a luxury holiday destination, is classed by many Kiwis as being a hang out for chavs!

Not heard any staff even talking about MRU let alone saying its being called the chav route????!!!

No VS staff have mentioned anything. Never heard it called the Chav Route either.

Are we sure its a VS flight and not a code share. Nothing has been mentioned internaly and VS are very good at commubiaction to its staff and crew now so I am not 100% sure about this.

We went to Mauritius in September 2003 and stayed at Le Touessrok. I'd be very surprised too if the chavs could afford to go there.

The St Geran is gorgeous too - we dined there a number of times as it's the sister hotel to Le Touessrok.

Yes but that was speculation- it now looks certain!

We all stopped salivating over MRU in June. Its only a couple of months away from showing up on the virgin site for reward bookings:

Do we have confirmation of it being a 744 on the route?

Guessing as it is mainly on the route network to assist VH that the route will be operated by a 744 as seats will be block brought by VH so therefore no need to start with a 343 as is seen normally. And its from LGW so unless they do a PHC im also guessing it is more than likely to be a 744.

With it being an ex LGW flight then it will be a 747 as this is the only config operating ex LGW.

The LGW 744 is much more suited to the B&S routes, although the A343s are useful for testing the water, so to speak. However, for an LGW route, it's not really practical to use an A343.

AS i Thought but of course it has been known for VS to fly in a 343 to operate routes out of LGW (PHC springs to mind).
