Hi
I am going to book a flight with the following routing..LHR-PVG-AUK-NRT-LHR on upper class/business premier with Virgin and Air NZ.Now its going to cost an arm and a leg (£3000 each) and I have a few questions I hope a guru can answer.
1. Will we be entitled to a limo (dont know booking class at this time but do partner flights with NZ have a standard booking class)?
2.Can I put the FF points for the trip on either NZ or Virgin and which is best?
3.Am I paying too much for the flight?(Looked everywhere but cheapest i,ve seen with decent seats is VS/Nz via NZ website).
4.Is there a difference between upper class seats on config 1 and 2 a340's or are they all the same now i.e. lie flat bed?

I know its a lot of questions to ask but I have used the search feature and cant seem to find answers to these points, also for the price of the trip I could swop my £800 car for a decent one:) so I am keen to get everthing right.Hope someone can provide some info.
Thanks.

You will have to ring to see what class the trip is booked in.It needs to be D or J to get the limos and these will only be on the VS operated legs.On these routes the VS flights will have UCS.I don't know if all of NZ have been converted to the flat beds.If you must go this route it's not a bad price, but if I just wanted to end up in NZ. I would go EK on a first class 241 fare that they do quite often, the one that finished on Sunday would cost about £5800 for 2 First class or about £4900 in J

Thanks Jaguar but my wife is keen to see Japan and we have done all the usual stopovers like KL,sin, bkk etc. Will Virgin know the class of ticket even if I have not booked it yet?

Virgin will be able to tell you which class of ticket they are quoting in you for, but you will have to give them a call to get this info - just ask them which booking class the ticket would be in.

When are you going? £3k for LHR-PVG-AKL-NRT-LHR in J seems very good value to me, i would assume that its booked in Z as opposed to D or J, especially on the NRT segment, but as others have said, you'll need to call VS and see what fare class they have quoted for and how they are ticketing it.

Yes you can claim the FF points for either NZ or VS, which is 'best' depends entirely on you. Where will you get most use from the miles and points? Are you close to requal on either? And will you be able to do something with the miles in either program?

Thanks,
Sarah

Thanks for the replies Neil and Sarah
I will be booking the ticket through ANZ as they are cheaper than Virgin and I am close to equal on points with both as I have exactly zero points with both :) I will be going late November and returning early December.

By the time you fly, PVG-AKL and AKL-NRT on NZ will be operated on the 777. These are very new planes (the oldest is just over a year old now), have the Business Premier suite (i.e. the UCS), mood lighting, etc.

They are seated 4-across like the B-zone on the VS 744s, much nicer than the way VS seat the A340s, IMHO.

Thanks!

Thanks Mike,I read your trip report which was very informative. I was quite keen to do the legs to and from Auk on ANZ as the new seats look very good, pity there is no bar:D
