VH have advised me this afternoon that they won't be able to book any packages with VS flights to Nairobi until April.

Seems like a wasted opportunity to me, why the wait when VS have seats on sale???

Because VS and VH are separate companies, and we purchase our allocation of seats from VS in the same way as any other tour operator. Just because VS have seats available, it doesn't necessarily mean that we at VH will have the same availability.

Of course, it all depends on when you're looking at travelling too, as our current brochures only contain holidays until April 2008.

Firstly, Thanks very much for your reply...[y]

I thought that VH swapped their choice of airline to VS once a new route is announced almost immediately. Surely more money is to be earn't by using VS as a preferred airline than buying seats from KQ.

More customers will book to Kenya knowing that VS flights are on offer - Just like me!!!!! [:p]

For VS, having to wait until VH release their new brochure in April seems like 5 months of wasted opportunities to get seats sold via VH customers. Filling seats on a new route must be a priority to make it pay from day one??

I am lucky as my choice of trip to Kenya is available as a tour only so I will be booking my flights direct with VS shortly.

You average customer though is going to settle for the KQ flights which cannot be the best for both VH and VS??? I understand that both companies run seperately, but they also work very closely together whilst trading seperately.

I might be wrong but it seems like both parties are missing a trick or 2 to generate extra revenue and keep us customers happy by offering VS flights...:D

Hi there :)

First off, it's sadly not always the case that the moment VS opens up a new route, we get the route made available to us. If VS can make more money by selling seats at their full commercial rates during the buzz generated by the initial launch, they'll do that rather than giving them to VH at discounted rates.

Once the route settles down a bit, that's when VH will get their allocation. It's not instant, but it will undoubtedly happen sooner or later ;)

In the meantime, VH are happy to make accommodation only bookings and allow passengers to book their own flights - but this will always be more expensive for the customer than taking an entire package with VH.

So, long story short... It'll happen, just not yet! [:I]

That isn't always the case, I have booked flights direct with VS and accom only with VH before and it has been cheaper to do it that way!

Well, depending on seasonal offers from VS and the like, booking separately can sometimes be cheaper - but it's certainly not a common occurrence :)
