Yes I agree - Its the name that maded the airline so stick with it - as they say - "Dont change it if it is not broken"

Isn't P&O actually Peninsular and Oriental (as in The Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company)?[:?]

Kinda sorta ish GJ, US became US through a group of mergers and buy outs, it really wasn't the old Allegheny by the time they switched names...Remembering that off the top of my head, correct me if I am wrong.
From Wikipedia:
As deregulation dawned on the industry, Allegheny Ñ looking to shed its regional image Ñ changed its name to USAir on October 28, 1979.

I stand corrected, the mergers with Lake Central and Mohawk were well before that, for some reason I had it stuck in my head that they changed names when they absorbed Piedmont [:I].

Following in the footsteps of BP,BT,BG and BA they'll simply become VA and in years to come we'll be arguing over whether the 'A' stood for 'Atlantic' or 'Airways'
Well if there is ever a merger with BMI let us hope that they don't re-name them Virgin Domestic

That would kind of contradict the whole virgin thing, wouldn't it?;)[}:)]
VS.
True, but it would give a new meaning to BMI Baby

I can see them just going with Virgin on the side of the planes etc, though I guess to all us die hards it will always be Virgin Atlantic.
