I am thinking of planning a trip to Hong Kong in May, obviously i'd like to fly Virgin but the prices are quite high compared to other airlines. Currently £407 in Econ and over £1000 in PE i think. Do Virgin ever do any special offers to Hong Kong as i know there was not in the previous Jan offers. Maybe HK is just a busy route? If anyones got any advice i'd be gald to hear otherwise i have to go with Air New Zealand to get miles as i dont think i can with Cathay P.

Thanks

Hong Kong is indeed a busy route - often full. I don't remember the last time they had decent sale fares on that route.

If getting a cheap flight is more important than the carrier/air miles, then you could always take a look at http://www.oasishongkong.com !?!

Demand outstrips any need for sale fares to HKG. Unfortunately seats sell themselves quickly and most sectors are indeed full as experienced by Maverick last night.

The fare you have is probably as cheap as you will get, I would book asap if you choose VS as the price will only go one way...:D

Ok thanks for your help. Think i give Virgin a miss this time. Seems Air NZ have updated their 747's and got best deal at 298 quid. PE is £250 cheaper than BA+VS quote also. Oasis HK want £270 for Economy ticket (the return flight time is naff though).

Going OT i dont suppose anyones flown Air NZ have they across pacific?

I am going to HKG in May also and booked my ticket back in October for £388. Also I did notice recently that NZ is doing May for £299. Why fly Oasis when you can fly NZ for not much more including all drinks and FC miles.

If you want to splash out, it is possible to fly Emirates business, via Dubai (!) for not much over £1000.

If you are planning Y class, I would look at the legroom offered as much as the price. 12 / 13 hours is a long time with your knees behind your ears!...VAA take note!

Dont know if its been noticed but as much as i hate to say it BA have a very good sale on at the minute. Way cheaper than any Virgin ticket which is a shame as i wont get any miles and feel like a traiter! But if it saves me money you got to do it.

Don't feel like a traitor! Miles are good, but ultimately we collect them to save money on future flights / upgrades. And if BA are offering a cheaper fare then that is the one to go for. Still feel free to come back and write a Trip Report on your flight though, its always good to read about competing airlines.

Decker and I flew BA to HK at Christmas.

We paid less for 2 Club tickets than we would have paid for 1 UC ticket.

I didn't feel guilty about flying BA, I was happy that I was saving so much money!

BA's sale is to get people back to them after the strike fiasco. I'd be shocked if Virgin don't respond with some sort of short term tactical seat sale.
