VS401 05MAR DXB-LHR delayed until 0430

It seems that the DXB flight has a hell of a delay, and isn't due to until 0430 tomorrow morning and arrive at LHR 0820??? There maybe some very unhappy campers on that flight!

Anyone know what the delay was?

Don't know for sure with that particular flight, but the DXB-LHR flight on Monday 5th didn't operate (as far as I know). I spoke to one of my colleagues and he said that it didn't even operate LHR-DXB on Sunday 4th.

FWIW, when I was unloading some bags from an Emiorates flight on Monday afternoon the baggage bin contained a number of VS401 bags.

In fact a N1 compressor blade damage on one of the engines.

The VS 400 is showing as "cancelled" on the 11 March (although shows a departure time of 20:29) as is the VS401 departing 12 March - exactly one week after the flight cancellation noticed by the OP. It took most of the week for the knock on effect of this to be sorted.

Seems a bit of a co-incidence to be tech again? Getting slightly worried as both of these have been Sundays and I'm due to fly out on a Sunday in a couple of weeks time.

VS400 did depart on 11th, but perhaps won't return on the 12th as the crew may go out of hours. DXB is closed due to an A310 belonging to Bangladesh having had an aborted take-off & the nose gear collapsing. Due to this being near the intersection of the two runways they are both shut. DXB expecting to be open again at 16:00 DWB time.

Th underside of that A310 must be a mess, good to hear of no major injuries to the poor souls involved...

It is lucky the plane never caught on fire with it skidding down the runway with all that fuel on board! Glad to hear no one was seriously hurt. [y] I think there maybe a few less passengers travelling with Biman! [:?]

It was the nose-wheel which collapsed, and the fuel is inside the wings, so there is virtually no chance of that happening. It would need the fuselage or wings to break up for the fuel to be spilled (and maybe catch fire). Regardless of that, I'm glad that I wasn't on it!

BBC and CNN says that flights were diverted to Abu Dhabi.

Oh I was looking at the picture with the engines resting on the ground, and thgought they would of been sliding down the runway? Oh well good job it ended all OK.

Just heard on the radio that VS and BA are diverting their flights? However on VS website it is still saying it is going in to DXB.

So glad to see that everyone was OK, but I bet the skid marks on the runway are not the only ones!!

Have UA stopped handling EK then at T3, in favour of Plane Handling?

I know someone at UA told me early last year they were expecting to lose their EK work, because of the plans to move all Star Alliance carriers to T1, but I didn't know it had happened yet.

Emirates are now looked after by Plane Handling as UA are pulling out of ground handling at LHR.

The VS400 operated as normal but had to divert to Sharjah due to the (only) runway at DXB being blocked by the disabled Biman A310. The passengers for the VS401 were coached to SHJ for it to operate from there. Unfortunately before the aircraft departed it developed a technical fault with the Avionics which couldn't be fixed before the crew ran out of hours.
