Yes, at the time of the 787 annoucement, many destinations including Hawaii were annouced by VS as being possible new routes.

Think the rumour was that first choice will be the first british airline there. Although to be honest the experiences we have had with Hawaiian Airlines would sway me to go via SFO or LAX as they're simply the best.
