For the time being it seems 'gifting' miles to others is not available:

http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/en/gb/fr ... /index.jsp

Clicking on 'Gift Miles' brings up:

"We're sorry, but this service is temporarily unavailable. Please come back soon if you wish to purchase miles as a gift for someone."

Which is a pain as I need to both buy and be gifted ( from my parents account ) miles to reach a reward.

Flying Club say this is a temporary problem and to 'keep trying' [:(!]

Unfortunately, wasn't available yesterday either so it might be some time..... anyone from VS any idea why this isn't available? Very frustrating.

Thanks,

David.

I have just tried it, and there doesn't appear to be a problem. You have to be signed into the VS website and it re-directs to buy.points.com

Clicking on 'Buy Miles' does indeed work fine.

Clicking on 'Gift Miles' directs to an 'unavailable.jsp' page.

Thanks,

David.

Is there any reason why you can't go down the buy miles route rather than the gift miles route and reclaim the cash from your parents?

I can only buy 25,000 miles, and I need more like 40,000 ( unless I want to wait a few months to get them through credit card spend, which I don't )

Hence the need for my father to 'gift' me miles to bring me up to the correct level.

Thanks,

David.

aha that makes sense now... I wonder if people had been "gifting" themselves miles to get around the limit.

Have you tried calling FC to ask them? Maybe it can be done over the phone?

Not sure what you need them for but there may be some scope to do part of the process from someone elses account (e.g. a sector upgrade) who could buy the miles into that account

Flying Club just said it was a 'website' issue that they couldn't do anything about - I asked if there was any way around it and was told 'no'.

Unfortunately it's for a 220,000 miles redemption and my parents won't be travelling, so I very much doubt I can ask Flying Club to 'dip' into their accounts for the amount required. I'll give them a call though....

Thanks,

David.

Hi David

Im having the same problem at the moment too....ive called flying club twice and on both occasions have been told that they can do nothing to help in terms of the actual website.

I was told however that they are willing to hold seats until the problem is fixed. Not much good if your travelling in the next week or so as i guess the problem is taking longer to solve than expected, but nevertheless a fair option i suppose. Just frustrating that these things always seem to happen to me!!!!

[:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!]

Now I'm starting to get annoyed.

I've phoned Flying Club again (Silver) and just keep getting the following line:

"The websites very busy at the moment with the sales and that's why it's not available."

NO!!! That's not why at all! It's clear that there's a placeholder page saying it's temporarily unavailable!

Despairing now as the agent couldn't give any other way of securing the seats until the problem is fixed - I'd need to find the miles within 48 hours.

Last port of call is to Premier Team - will just have to see what kind of reception I get. Why is nothing ever easy and why can't this be fixed?!?! [V]

Still down today, and I need to gift a wedding present so that my friends can go on honeymoon in Upper. I guess they may have to rely on the goodwill of the folks at premium checkin. Anyone have any exoperience of honeymoon upgrades? It is genuine, before you ask!

Yet more woes.... Buy Miles is now affected again, in a strange way [?]

"Seen a reward you'd really like but don't have quite enough miles in your account to get it? Don't worry, there is a way, because you can now top up your account by purchasing miles. Buy Miles allows you to purchase up to 25,000* miles in any calendar year, in increments of 1,000. And they're ready to be used straight away, so that reward is as good as yours.

*We have temporarily reduced the number of miles you can purchase from to 25,000 to 19,000."

I was hoping things were going to get better!! Gift Miles still unavailable - 20 days down now and counting. [:(!]

Bumping this old thread.

Apparently gifting miles is still temporarily unavailable.

Anyone heard any update as to the VS definition of 'temporarily' recently? [?]
