Quite often, yes.

One big advantage is that you can get the price of a Z (minus £30 odd quid) for a flight booked VERY last minute with a MpM ticket.

I suppose it would be better to buy a full fare PE ticket and then use 40000 to upgrade to UC, would work out at £1260 as opposed to £1600. Doesn't make any sense.

I have never used M+M, but the saving in UC isn't always £30, is it?

I understood that there was quite a variation depending on route and time of year.

Indeed - if you're booking within 42 days of travel (the notable Z restriction) this can be a major saving versus a D or J.

Absolutely ... I've made big savings using MPM to fly Upper Class to Orlando in November & February.

and MPM can be changed...... for a nominal fee. a Z fare or even a D class cannot, without a LARGE penalty.

Hold on a sec, I've just seen this creep in to the terms on the Miles + Money page
Effective 14 September 2007 - For Upper Class Miles Plus Money bookings, reservations must be made a minimum of 21 Days prior to departure of the outbound sector.

So there we go, one of the very few benefits of using M+M, GONE. [n]

That sucks big time. The reason I fly(or flew) with VS was because of the frequent flyer program, now they are just taking the pi**. No more CDS, real problems trying to find availability when you can use miles, raising the amount of miles it takes to get a reward, and now the last straw, a 21 day rule on UC. Thats me gone, well after I use my Amex Premium upgrades[:I][V]
