On Friday, Virgin Group's Sir Richard Branson announced he would avoid buying thirsty four-engined airliners in the future for Virgin Atlantic.
This is the same "he" that has nothing to do with the running of VS any more? [:?]

Reuters reports the airline will still fly its current fleet of 38 A340-300s

I thought the whole 4 engines .... bit came out of a passenger survey. Apparently 'we' prefer the safety and security of 4 engines for transatlantic routes.

Of course my memory might be playing tricks on me.

Isn't this something we've known for over a year now, ever since VS started removing the slogan (which, to bring up again, was not Virgin's slogan, but Airbus's) from its aircraft?

Typical "read it everyway you want" fron Branson. I am sure he taught Blair how to do it!
he is not really saying that he won't buy 4 engined aircraft, but won't buy "thirsty" four engined aircraft.
Already he talks about using biofuels on the 747's (Chip shop smell with every seat [:o)] ) so expect in a couple of years new 747's with better fuel efficient not so thirsty engines [}:)]

Now that sounds good [^]

Will go well with the smell of roast chicken from a taxiing bird ingestion. [:w]

4 engines good, 4 engines bad, Pendolinos "built like tanks" blah blah blah. . .

You gotta love how the public seem to swallow it no end!

No..what he is saying is he won't buy 4 engine aircraft unless he has to.. I.E if a new route needs 4 engine aircraft...or if VS is offered a good deal

Sine when is a VK 767 a narrow-body?

Darren, you're right; out of those surveyed by VS, 19% said they would go out of their way to fly 4 engined a/c and the majority said they would prefer 4 engined a/c, while others wanted "as many engines as possible."
