Reward black-out dates?

I am trying to find availability for a one way flight from LHR-SYD in early January (returning to UK from Australia on my RTW ticket). I know I've left it late to book, but I hadn't planned on visiting the UK again until next year and am just considering my options now. Anyway, I'm being told there's no availability in any fare class until after 21st Jan. Is there a black-out period for reward seats, or is it just a case of being far too few seats available and me having left it way too late?

Any idea if there may be more availability on Singapore Airlines?

It's probably a combination of both. I know that availability on the LHR-HKG sector is not great as there is a heavy demand for that route.
