Delta US Flights

Hi All,

Just need some guidance

I'm going to be flying from LHR-SFO in J. But my travels within USA i am thinking either going with Virgin America or Delta (For miles+tier points). I will be travelling in Y for the US flights. I plan to travel from SFO-JFK-LAX in USA. Should i go for Virgin America or Delta? Should i go for Delta because of the miles i can get and also tier points? I think i will get 2 TP and about 5000 miles if i fly DL for this route....

p.s. if i was to go with DL, is it better to book on delta.com or expedia? I heard delta.com you can't enter in your FC number? Maybe this has changed recently?

The fare code will be U. Its a discounted Economy, i suppose its still 100% miles flown earned?

Any suggestions?

Personally, I'd always stick with the carrier's own website. It just makes things SO much easier when/if things go wrong at the airport; it can ONLY be their problem

As long as each individual sector is greater than 2,000 miles, yes, you'd earn 1 TP per sector flying in Economy across the US. U class does indeed earn 100% flown mileage (as per here) with DL, so go for it [y]

(If you can't enter your FC number online, no worries. You don't need it prior to travel as there are no direct FC benefits with DL anyway, and you can always give it to them at check-in or do a retrospective claim afterwards)



In terms of VX or DL, well personally I'd go VX - but then I don't need the TP's or miles. If you do, then it's a no-brainer, as VX will earn you nothing that's relevant to VS. For service/product, then I'd put RyanAir over Delta's economy any day of the week... [:w]

I have just done DL JFK-YYZ-JFK. You can provide your FC number at check-in or if you do DIY check-in at the airport during the process the machine will ask you for a frequent flyer no. where you will enter your FC no. and then select Virgin Atlantic. Also the mileage was in my account within 3 days.

Thanks guys for the info I guess i will have to go with DL as i need the TP's! If not i would of gone with VX. Oh well maybe next time Is Y really that bad for the transcon flights on DL? You see i will only have 18TP's by the end of my RTW trip. Thats not including the SFO-JFK-LAX. So if i flew DL to get the other 2 TP i would have 20. Then i am going to do a SIN run! KUL-SIN-KUL-SIN-KUL in SQ F Which should take me to 40TP's!

DL is not that bad. SFO-JFK is a premium route and just may have one of the new 757s

Delta really is fine-nothing to get too excited about but if you get one of their newer coast to coast flights, not at all a bad experience. The on board for- purchase meals have also really improved of late and are not terribly unreasonably priced.

Too bad about having to forego the fun of a V America flight though...I was faced with a similar tp and miles versus flight preference and chose V America even though it may well cost me my gold card. In sum, to me it isn't worth taking a blah flight in order to enjoy some future perk when I could be actually enjoying sitting five hours in an airplane. Work would have paid for either but they were well pleased at having to pay less for VX!
