According to this thread from last year - the club had closed its doors to new members.

It does however seem to have gone through a renaissance and details of how to join can be found here, on the Virgin Holidays website.

It does say that membership is 'by invitation only'. I am sure will be VH customers who can explain this.

As Nick says, membership is "by invitation only" and new members can only get the new, revised benefits i.e. parking / hotel etc; the 10% discount is now only available to those who were members prior to the rejigging of the FVC.

If you feel you should be eligible, drop them an email or give them a call. Their ability to recognise "a customer" is somewhat lacking; if you've changed address in any way in your booking history (moved, or had the Post Office change your postcode) or used a different title or booked using your initials one time or your full name another you may well be seen as different customers.

Thus far I've received two invitations to rejoin (arrived the same day, one to Mr. Paul, or to Dr PJ.) and had three copies of a recent mailout all with slight variations in my address.

Well, I received my invitation and membership cards this morning!! Now, should I be feeling 'special'? There doesn't seem too many benefits when I went online to check.

I still get the 10% discount with Virgin's Flying Club though don't I?

It's a case one or the other and not both I'm afraid. Either use your FVC 10% discount (by far the best value compared to the other FVC benefits) or use your FC 10% discount. You can't use both, even if you choose one of the other FVC benefits instead of the 10% discount.

Thanks. Not much of a perk then.[:?] Hardly worth them bothering to send membership cards out etc.

I do like our 10% off FC discount so will stick with that.

I called, or tried to call, the FVC number today.

As recently as May this year (after the scheme had changed), I received 10% from accommodation only bookings with the new FVC card.

After being passed for pillar to post and not being able to speak to someone from the FVC as they were too busy, a nice chap in Customer Services was told to inform me that the accommodation only 10% does not apply unless you spend over £1500 per booking and stay over 3 nights. Having read the T&Cs carefully, these details are on the website but refer to the 'free benefits' and not someone still electing to receive 10% discount.

As someone who likes to book the odd couple of nights in different resorts in Flordia each time we travel, I'm pretty disgusted with both their rulings, which don't appear on the conditions for a 10% discount, and the service I've received.

I'll vote with my feet!

As an update to my previous posting I received a telephone call from VH today regarding discounts with accommodation only bookings. I am satisfied that they took the matter seriously and I am happy with my personal result.

However, I am also in contact with David (user name Virgin Holidays) so rather than post the information I have been given, he would like to complete his investigations and then post himself.

Just to clarify, the conditions of the free benefits also apply to the 10% discount, which is also classed as an FVC benefit.

Although this is confirmed in the T&Cs listed in the member area od the FVC website, this is not reflected in the T&Cs listed on the VH website. I've spoken with both the FVC team and our Marketing team to get this rectified ASAP.

We have just booked a fly drive to Boston, which is under 1500.00. Previously we always received 10% discount regardless of the amount, but we were told this does not apply.

We are gold card holders and have been FVC holders for about 6 years. So forgive me if I sound thick, but we definitely do not get 10% discount on either if we spend under 1500.00, because we have never been informed of this.

Thanks in advance for the clarification.

Hi Claire, unfortunately the information you have been given is correct, and a 10% discount is only given on flydrives and accommodation only bookings if it is over 3 nights stay and the value exceeds £1500.

As Virgin Holidays says in his post above, the VH website does not specify the conditions in this particular instance but the site will be updated to reflect this.
