Just had some friends fly out to the Vagas in PE which I got a recommendation bonus of 2500 miles for each of them (2 x 2500) for the return sector they were due to fly out of LAX in PE but upgraded at the airport to Upper with money. I thought I would be credited with 2 x 5000 as they flew upper but only got credited with 2 x 2500. Spoke to the flying club and they say the points are based on the ticketed class and even though they paid cash to upgrade at the airport I only get the PE recommendation bonus not the upper recommendation bonus for that sector.
This all seems strange as if you upgrade at the airport from PE to Upper with cash you will earn upper miles and tier points not PE miles and tier points so why does the recommendation bonus not follow suit.
Should I try speaking to someone else?[?]
