Z Fare clarification

Hope this isn't a silly question - but how do you normally get a Z fare?

I'm looking at flights to New York ( and other destinations also ), when you look at the website, say 21st-24th October, out on VS45, back on VS46. There are 2 Upper Class options listed - 'Lowest' and 'Flexible' ( £1822 and £4133 respectively )

I'm presuming that 'Lowest' is 'D' and 'Flexible' is 'J' as the limo isn't included in 'Lowest', which ties into 'D'.

What's the criteria for a 'Z' class fare to be offered, and who are they through?

If you choose 'lowest' Upper Class it will be a Z fare. Looking at that price, the £1822 is a Z fare. The only thing you dont get with a Z fare is the limo transfers.

Once you make the payment on the web site, it will tell you which fare you have booked.

As there are only a finite number of Z fares (and an allegedly decreasing number, at that) I'm presuming that the VS site will offer D fares as the "lowest" when Z fares are not available. However, £1822 is definitely a Z fare.

i have found that on the VS website, having selected the Upper Class Lowest option, at the bottom of the View Price and Book page there will be a notice beginning "Please note that this discounted Upper Class fare does not qualify for our chauffeur driven car service." Other times having selected this option you will get the notice saying you are entitled to the limo service. I presume that when you get the former notice it is a Z fare and when you get the latter it is a D fare

Well spotted honey lamb. As Z is the only fare (you can book online) that doesn't include the limo, then your thinking should be spot on.
