Qantas, is putting bars in their business and First Cabins, and on the UCS website, it says All-Nippon Airways has one! I hope no other airline puts in-flight massages onboard otherwise VS will not be able to offer the extras that make Upper Class Up-a-Class from other airlines! Or do you think Virgin will continue to do new ideas exclusive for them to continue to stay ahead! I know the new Suite seat is the largest Biz flat bed, and one of the largest First Class beds, but VS were famous for their exclusive bars!

A lot of innovations that have been introduced by VS have been brought in by other airlines. Some of them (seatback TVs in economy, for example) have bencome industry standards.

I would hope that VS will continue to be at the cutting edge in passenger facilities - the suites and new Clubhouses are seemingly proof that they will try their best.

Nick what you say here is very true.

However, the emphasis is on the Business side of things which I know makes the airlines the majority of their money and therefore need to gain the business in this area.

But, I have not seen anything to update the premium or economy cabins in years.

For the poor souls that have to fly Economy, lets hope this is the next area of attention and cutting edge in passenger facilities:D

I flew Virgin Economy in February this year from LHR to EWR and back on VS1/2 and to be honest the staff were v.friendly, service v.good and seats were actually ok, although the newer seats on v:port a/c are smaller than the previous ones when we flew G-VTOP on the outbound flight with Odyssey, but the seats were fine. So, if VS did put more legroom throught economy, then that would be brilliant, and much better (considering they have friendly, cheerful Cabin Crew, great IFE esp. with v:port and Odyssey. There is supposed to new products launched at the end of this year but (apparently;)) it's not to do with extra legroom or more seating, but I suppose I can live with it, and have a lower fare, but with a great service!
Saying that, Virgin have been very innovative (first airline to give PTVS to all passengers ect) but it would be nice if they get even better, and start to innovate even more with Economy. BTW, Economy is still a very good product. If there is any VS staff reading this, keep up the good work of being friendly and having a good service- Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Didnt BA have a bar on board once apon a time? (i mean a good while ago - im sure i was them or similar)

I think Virgin may be up against some real competition soon as some of the Charters such as Thomas Cook have increased their legroom in Economy, and as they offer a good service with movies and drinks it may lure some pax away, especially with the B&S routes such as Orlando.

I would love to see an extra inch or two in Economy, just to make Virgin have a more competitive seat pitch, but i guess while they can still get away with it they wont spend the money, a refit will cost a small fortune.

VS still seem to be trying to innovate. On Radio 4 this morning, there was a story about the 18 month delay to VS getting the A380, because of delays to the interior fit out, including a casino.

Perhaps that is the VS A380's unique selling point.

Hey, why go to Vegas - just gamble for 8 hours on the plane...

Oh good grief - I lose enough in LAS let alone being able to get skint and max out the cards before I get there :D

Hmmmm, wonder if they'd do the same "at table" drinks service.....plus I dunno if sitting at a BlackJack table would be the same without being able to smoke ;)

Cheers

Maybe VS will use the gambling to hedge fuel price movements. When prices go up, they'll put American (0 and OO) roulette wheels on...

LOL! Actually an in-flight betting system would really suit V:Port - coming soon "Bet on how much the price of fuel has gone up from take-off to landing" :D

The very early 747s had a bar upstairs but most were riped out for more seats very quickly. My friend who worked for BA for 34 years says he never worked on a plane fitted with a bar but when he started on long haul he was on the Tristar fleet for around 10 years. The bar to my mind is still the trump card in VS UC product.
