Ive just seen on the website that Virgin are offering flights to Lyon, which are operated by Air France.

Why is this?

Is this for an alliance for future partnerships?

Not that i want to go to Lyon, it just seemed a bit strange :)

I recollect reading that Virgin are doing this to protect slots they own but have no desire to operate so that they can "barter" them later

I read they are safeguarding the slots as well.

If slots are left vacant, then apparrently BAA can re-allocate them to another airline.

Perhaps these are the LHR-HKG-SYD slots ??

The alliance with Air France is to protect the LHR - SYD slots for Virgin. As soon as they get the go ahead Air France will stop the flights.

But does this mean that Virgin will be starting a second daily service to Hong Kong?

I read somewhere Lyon has more Michlin 3* eateries than anywhere else on the planet & VS did say there would be 2 flights to honkers daily with one onward to SYD.

But earning miles for my flight to LYS for my Skiing trips to Tignes would be cool. :D

Thanks,
Richard
