I can't find the answer to this theoretical scenario: ( He says, before having to eat his words as someone immediately knows the answer! [|)] )

I book a seat in Economy to New York and am going to earn 8646 miles. I then spend 20000 miles to upgrade to PE. Though I've spent 20000 miles do I then earn the PE number of miles? ( 10374 ). This then makes the upgrade cost 18272 miles.

Maybe this wouldn't be worth it in this case, but go to Cape Town and the upgrade cost from Economy to UC comes down from 60000 to just under 51000 ( course, you have to have the 60000 miles upfront )

I can't see anything in the T&C's that rules this out, the only ones I can see are relevant are those below:

Thanks,

David.

Hi David

Sorry - you only earn miles for your originally booked class of travel when upgrading with miles - if you upgrade with cash, then it's a different story.

Cheers

Watch your account closely if you upgrade with miles when the ticket is first purchased. The ticket comes through on a reward fare code and the miles from (Y) purchased part of the fare often do not appear. A quick call to FC gets it sorted there and then.
