I think it's probably bacause VS are currently 1 LHR 747 down (G-VFAB) which is out of service for considerably longer than the other 744's whilst Lady P's getting her well-deserved makeover.

Also, I guess, as we are now into peak summer holiday time and VS routes are up to the max over the next few weeks.

If you're getting that info from the LHR/LGW movements site, I've just had a look over that.

I only see G-VGAL being used on 15/16th July on VS19/20 so far this month, and don't see any other LGW 744s being used on the SFO routing - maybe just covering for a plane gone tech/maintenance? With G-VFAB out in refit at the moment, VS would be 2 planes down and I can see that that would screw up the scheduling. Can't really see any other reason since VS do say that UCS is definitely on the JFK/SFO routes from 1st July (subject to the quote at the bottom of this post :))

If G-VXLG is covering for an aircraft on an LGW route, then it sorta makes sense as it's the only LHR 744 without the UCS.

I'd also question some of the reliability of the information on that site - on the LGW movements, it still has VS53/54 (A343) being LGW>SFO when it's LHR>BOS

Quote from http://www.upperclasssuite.com:
The Upper Class Suite is available on all flights to New York (JFK) and San Francisco. The Suite is also available on selected flights to New York (Newark), Boston, Miami, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Shanghai as it continues to be rolled out across the rest of our network*

* For operational reasons we cannot guarantee that aircraft will not change without prior notice. Some aircraft will not be fitted with the UCS.

I agree with mcuth, the site has some conflicting information. I hope they are not using XLG at Gatwick on the same days they are sending LGW aircraft to Boston. Boston is quite a business route and yet they always seem to send A343's and now LGW aircraft there :-(

Oops, I misunderstood. In any case, in Y class, I would rather take an LGW 744 over a 343. However, in UC, I would prefer an older Airbus over the LGW plan because at least you get the full UC treatment (bar, beaty therapist, in-flight power, etc.), and the J2000 seat, even if the plane is a bit narrow.

BTW, there is inflight-power on the UC seats on LGW 744s. The socket is on the right-hand side of the seat and i've been offered an EmPower adapter by the attendant that welcomed us onboard.

Another swop around according to Acars

VS807P From London Gatwick G-VGAL 744 21/07/2004 14:15
VS808P To London Gatwick G-VAST 744 21/07/2004 07:37

So Jersey Girl is back operating out of LHR again and has been replaced at LGW by Ladybird. These are confusing times.

Well it looks like I will be getting a suite plane on 0805 on VS11 according to the availability tool. For the way back, it is still showing a 744. If that means a plane with J2000, I'll still be happy. Right now, Virgin's web-site is showing a J2000 layout so maybe I'll be lucky!

G-VGAL positioned to LHR late last week for scheduled maintenance in the hangar, it is now back at LGW because I flew her on the 34 from antigua last night.

According to VS both of my flights to Boston, VS 11 on 5 Aug and VS 12 on 9 Aug are both suites. This must have been a recent change because just last week freeway said that I was getting V-XLG. I wonder if this means that VFAB is back or if they have put a different plane on my route. Personally, I'd like to think of it as VS' B-day present for me, but I doubt I'm that special to them.
