So was at Terminal 3 meeting a friend of NZ2 from LAX and AKL. She was transiting to LBA so we had lunch before walking to T1 for her bmi flight back to leeds. On arrival at T1 at around midday at the bmi desks were VS and Air NZ cabin crew all checking in for domestic services. Am slighlty confused as to where they were going and for what reason.

do crew op from man to mco fly up to man from lhr? do vs have crew living out of london? and does anyone know if nz have uk based crew? just wondering where and what they were all doing!

They would have been either going off duty or going on duty, if the latter they would have been taking flights to get them to wherever they needed to be to join the aircraft they were due to crew. This is a very common procedure.

The crew that you saw would have been travelling home as a lot of Virgin crew commute to/from work from all over the country.

The crew that operate the MAN-MCO service are based in Manchester.

As an airline employee you get to travel on many of the worlds airlines for just 10% of the fare.

Many crew commute from MAN, GLA, EDI, MAD, BCN, ABZ, NCL, DUB and ORK. If you ever take an early morning flight from MAN to LHR its like a staff bus, flight full of BA and VS staff going to work.

didn't see any staff on the 6:05 flight to heathrow from newcastle, but I saw a couple of VS cabin crew that were on my flight from SFO and a couple of BA pilots, on the return at 12.

the VS staff also looked considerably more refreshed, I bet they have a lounge or somewhere where they can hang out.

OK thanks for the info i was just under the impression that VS crew have to live within hour-hour and half driving distance of crawley HQ, thats what i thought it said on the adverts for cabin crew?

And yes BLyhty both VS and NZ crews looked very refreshed. I know for a fact that the NZ flight had been on the ground for an hour and they looked very 'sprightly' certainly not like they had done LAX-LHR! (JEt do LHR based NZ crew only fly to LAX or do they go on to AKL?)

Do VS have any crew based outside of UK? IS it common for u guys to fly into say Boston then have to get an internal the next day to say LAX or MIA to operate home from there 3 days later? Certainly no that this is how First CHoice do long haul charters

VS do not have any crew based in the USA.

They do have crew bases in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Lagos, and Delhi.

Japanese crew are based here in London.
