Downgrades!

Here's another one for the pros!

The legendary SIN-KUL rarely has business class, only first or economy. I'm booked in business, but have been told I will be downgraded (being too tight to pay the daft supplement for 30mins in a plane).

So what miles do I get? I know that if you're upgraded you only get original miles, but what about the opposite? Virgin's website is not illuminating on this (I guess not wanting to admit that downgrades happen!)

Exact same has happened to me. Booked KUL-SIN in J but have now been put in Y as there isnt a J cabin. Ive asked whether i can upgrade to F but as my ticket is part of the Great Escapade im not sure whether i can upgrade lone segments.

Currently, i believe the flight is 1 TP and how ever many miles to SIN as the flight is under 2000 miles. I will only get Y miles/points, not sure if its the same for you but if they are refunding you the difference i would guess it is. I really want to get in the F cabin as the 5 TPS (4 difference) are worth every penny to me as i should be achieving Gold when i come back from the trip, and the extra 4 TPs will ensure this.

Looks like a bit of a stitch up on the GE ticket there [:(!] We're actually in the same situation - our GE ticket is now UC (decided the business pricing was too good to miss & upgraded) hence why i've hit this problem. The price of upgrading sectors is ridiculous, where possible; I originally wanted to upgrade one sector and ended up doin the whole ticket for the same price.

A similar wrinkle on GE is that I've signed my wife up for flying club, but because we don't undertake a return flight with virgin anywhere in our GE trip (try to fit a return flight with virign into those fare rules) I won't get the bonus 15k milesmorefriends miles for recruiting her. Bit upsetting that. I can foresee a discussion with flying club on returning home - 29k miles with virign and partners but no bonus!

On the Great escapade its better to book SIN-KUL seperately as even in F its only £100ish return:D[8D]

Yep, may have to do that if they wont let us upgrade, although im not sure how it works as we 'have' to do that flight to get back to SIN to go to SYD, i guess they can change it to an 'overland' sector?

Dave, im asking around to see if i can upgrade that section, what were you quoted for upgrading your sector? (roughly) If you dont mind telling me? Just wondering what to expect?

Ive already had to pay for an overland BKK-KUL in J, dont fancy paying for another one! LOL

I was told it would be about £150 'if it was possible', but my agent would have to speak to the airlines and see.

I was also quoted £1700 for SIN-LHR upgrade, ie the same as upgrading the whole ticket!
