VS Upper Class Night flight

Hi,

I am flying LAX-LHR in upper class in August, and I am on the 18:00 dep from lax. Obviously this is a night flight, so just wondering, should i bring pj's with me or do you sleep in your normal clothes??

You have at least three choices:

- sleep in your clothes [:$]
- take your own PJs [8D]
- or, you do get a sleep suit when flying UC, it's black, comes in S, M and L sizes and made of cotton / polyester - I find it perfectly comfortable
- sleeping in Chanel no. 5 is not generally recommended

As I have never flow UC before, I am really excited about this flight. With the sleeper suits I assume these are handed out by the crew inflight? Also, do you have like loads of people getting changed in the bathroom?

(Just want to make sure i have UC etiquette, ha ha!!)

One thing to bare in mind is that on a night flight the cabin can get very warm indeed and a full set of PJ's under a duvet may be too much.

Yes, they are handed out pre-flight, and people do change in the wash rooms.

If you do a search of the site, you will find a fair few discussions about the suits, their sizes, etiquette for changing and even the laundering of them.

Darren is quite right. You can get very hot wearing full sleep suit under the duvet. Perhaps a baggy t shirt (I carry one in hand baggage) over the bottoms is most comfortable. Once handed out pax either pop into the loo and change at once or wait until they are ready to settle down for a nap. I prefer to get changed as soon as I am on board as I find it more comfortable and almost always ditch the sleepsuit top in favor of aforesaid baggy tee. Hope this helps and enjoy your flight.

Of course there are those who insist on trying to get changed under the duvet (a bit like getting changed at the beach..) and if sat opposite be ready to avert your eyes in case some unmentionable part of the body bursts forth in front of you.

Sleep suits. Hmm. Well, as has already been stated, they're polyester (not the most ideal of fabrics to sleep in, especially in an inevitably over-heated UC cabin) and they're laundered (not always as well as they could be).

My over-riding fear with any sleep suit proffered my way has always been that the previous occupant may have - to use the colloquialism - 'gone commando' in them. To be on the safe side, I take a nice thin, cotton set of M&S PJs on UC flights. They're cooler, they're more stylish, and I know that the only 'bits' that have been let loose in them are mine.

At IAD you were able to change in the CH. They would give you a Sleep Suit and take your clothes and load them into the cabin on a nice hanger. Pretty cool as you could maximize your CH and sleep time.

I not long ago did the LAX-LHR in UC.

The suits were handed out on boarding and most people changed in the bathroom, although two guys did stand up and change in the cabin.

Some do. While its the normal thing to do in your own PJ's, the sleepsuits onboard are laundered after use (if you haven't taken them home). While this procedure should be sufficient most of the time, there have been occasions when V-Flyers have found evidence to suggest the contrary. Finding another persons hair on your PJ's isnt the nicest thing, especially when the hairs are short and curly. Therefore, 'changing room' ettiqutte of keeping your kecks on is deemed by many here to be the sensible thing to do.
