Good positive move from VX - Not many people would have put money on San Jose del Cabo being VX's first international route.

Anyone been there, what's it like? [:)]

I was there last month. Quaint and picturesque, the part of town we visited sits 17 miles south of Cabo San Lucas. A central square in town is ringed by a church and shops. Other shops are located aside a long boulevard leading to the square. Outdoor concerts are held there.

San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas are together known as Los Cabos, a rapidly developing 'Gold Coast' resort destination. We were on a shore excursion from a cruise and as we motored south from Cabo we saw literally miles of new hotel, golf and condo construction to support the development.

Unlike its more famous 'cousin' down the road, SJDC appears to be more laid back but I doubt that will last. Given the way these towns are being marketed -- real estate booklets sit in big stacks on streetcorners -- I fear that it will not be long before McDonalds and Applebees appear; on the road to SJDC we spotted WalMart, Costco and Home Depot.

The climate in winter is similar to Palm Springs with clear, warm days and cool evenings. During the summer, the geography of the area and its desert orientation is also akin to Palm Springs, with air temperature approaching 120F. The nearby Pacific provides relief, however.

VX has obviously scouted the development, selecting the less-developed CSDL over the more commercial CSL. The route will clearly appeal to Californians, Canadians and Europeans who are snapping up $700,000 condos here with no more hesitation than if they were bags of groceries. That said I don't hesitate to recommend a visit. You'll certainly have a variety of new accommodations from which to choose, the azure sea at your doorstep and, when the moon dips below the horizon, a festive party atmosphere in Cabo San Lucas.

The route also doesn't face a lot of competition, especially from LA, so it sounds like a good move.

Excellent move. Seems to be the kind of market that VX are aiming for. THis is how I see the rumoured MIA hub being as well- bringing a bit of class to the higher end Caribbean markets.

Thanks for the info Chuck - Sounds like the place is well worth a visit if close to the area.

Given the growth in the area, It's puzzling to understand why Frontier have given VX the opportunity to bid for the route by backing out.
