I have been on the phone with a rep from the silver club for 40 minutes and I still don't know the answer to my question, so hopefully someone here will know the answer for me.

I am currently booked on a s fare and my husband is on a free CC companion voucher booked under U.

What we want to do is to stay an extra week but there aren't any flying club companion seats available.

I asked if I could change my husbands flight to a M+M and I was told that they could only transfer 75% of my miles back into my account. I have tried till I'm blue in the face to explain that I never used miles I used a voucher but I'm not getting through. Don't get me wrong if they want to give me extra miles that's fine by me [:D]

So, can I cancel or change my husbands flight to a M+M and can I change the return date on my S fare. I think I am right in understanding that I cannot cancel the flight, I can only change the date. I know it's going to cost me some more cash but I can't think of any other way to do it. I presume I can't cancel my flight and then book 2 M+M fares.

Sorry if it sounds muddled, it's probably because I am [:I]

Call back. Speak with someone that has a clue. :)

Spoken to another person who has now told me that neither flights can be changed or cancelled.

Phoned back for the third time and have been told that the companion flight is unable to be cancelled or changed - I will forfeit the taxes. I can then book a M+M flight - very kind of her!

My flight, I can change but I will have to pay more money as well as the £50 change fee.

Think I might as well give this up for a bad idea as everyone I speak to is telling me something different.

It is illegal for them to not refund taxes as those monies are not paid to the government if you do not travel.

Call back and ask to speak to a supervisor. If you don't have any joy, then let me know.

Thanks,
Richard

How did I know Richard would reply to the thread when ticket taxes came into play? :)

Close - the tickets can be changed. There will be a fee as such though but not the charade of a complete refund.

An S fare you can change - usually just for the fee however if your flight is coming up soon you may have to pay to upgrade to a W fare, when are you flying?

A companion ticket, my understanding is that if you cancel it you forefeit it, however your taxes are refundable. Again, your options are going to depend on your travel dates.

I would do as suggested, ask to be put through to a supervisor. However, if you have a companion fare does this come from being VS Au or Amex. If the former then you should ring the UC / Premier line? They are generally much more knowledgable.

We aren't flying until December and the companion was from Amex.

I think I'll wait until Monday to try again Richard, don't think I can face going through it all again tonight [ii]

My understanding was that if you cancelled the companion ticket the taxes were refunded and the voucher returned to your account (unless its 'book by' date has already passed).

We had no problem recently changing a revenue fare from a JFK departure to EWR as reward availability became available at the last minute. Cost £50 change fee for the S and £25 for the companion ticket I think.
