Greetings peeps...

I'm in a quandry... I'm requalled Au though the end of August and before then I'll probably have 3 Business Class return flights to New Zealand. So my question is - I'm currently lowly BluePlus with BMI. Should I put the miles on BMI or open an Air New Zealand FF account? Can I get to Gold With BMI without actually flying BMI?

What do you want to do with the miles? Do you want status? There is also the SQ option. This way you could use the miles on VS or Star.

Alternative status sounds good - I should be able to EuroGold with BA shortly so trying for Gold with Star Alliance would cover all bets... SQ seem to go via Singapore (funny that :)) not my preferred routing but hey...

No no. I am suggesting that you have your miles credited to a SQ KrisFlyer account not fly SQ. This way you have Star Status, gain backup VS benefits with the ability to use your miles earned on SQ/VS or and Star Partner.

Also remember that since you have VS Au banked, you could have your VS miles credited to the SQ account to earn status miles. SQ counts VS miles as status miles so that could reduce the amount of Star flying needed to gain Star status.

BMI status matched my BA gold no problems, without ever stepping foot on their metal.

Yeah but I status matched 3 years ago and was worried they'd keep track...

I've done it twice first with VS Au about 4 years ago and recently with BA gold they never batted an eye lid just tell them change of travel patterns bla bla[:D]Worse that can happen is computer says no.

OK been doing some spreadsheeting!

I know I have 7 flight sectors of up to 2 segments apiece to take. Assuming the following

BMI earns at 2x in Business Class and that this 2x counts towards STATUS as well as DESTINATION
ANZ earns Airpoints at published rates
VS and SQ earn at 1.25x and this counts to STATUS as well as DESTINATION

With ANZ I'd go Elite Au on flight 5 and then earn another 740 Airpoints and so be 1/2 way to requalling Gold Elite again

With SQ I'd go Gold on flight 6 and have about 15,000 towards the 75,000 required to requal Gold again

With BMI I'd go Gold on 4 and requal for Gold AGAIN on flight 6 as it SEEMS a return trip to AKL will nett 47,000 miles and therefore requal Gold?

This looks like a no-brainer in favour of BMI. Especialy given that miles over 55,000 get converted to Destination miles!

Although it might only be rumour at the moment. If Lufthansa take over BMI in December, BMI status will be owrth very little.
