Hi all, Im a senior cabin crew member working in upper class.The meal loading is still the same so if J customers want to ask for more food, eat at different time etc then this will still be accomodated....I seen in an earlier post someone made a comment about the White Wine being reduced to 2. The reason for this is to allow for a Rose wine to be loaded. There was not enough space to have 3 white wines and a rose.....

On the topic of the available/not available Freedom menu - this simply underlines VAA's achilles heel; consistency... when will they listen???[:(]
And who wants rose in instead of a good quality choice of a third white - I'd MUCH rather have the 3rd white. Perhaps we should start another 'bring back the burger' campaign???[}:)]
On the other topic, I love the idea of doggy-bags being brought in from the CH! In fact, why not take it a step further and allow take-aways to be delivered to your seat while awaiting push-back. Can you imagine an oik in a hoody ambling down the aisle shouting 'ooo ordered the chicken bhuna then?' [:D]

On the way back from BGI yesterday, mdvipond jr. had her meatballs and spaghetti in tomato sauce (perfect airplane food for a 2 year old) 9 minutes after the seatbelt sign went off, I had my dinner with the majority of the UC cabin some half an hour after that, and the-now Mrs mdvipond had hers an hour later after settling jr. down for the night.
If that's not 'freedom', I don't know what is...

We had the same experience coming back from TOB last year and I also thought the meatballs was a great kids meal.Served straight after the seat belt sign went off. They then staggered Mrs F and my own meal to suit bedding down jnr. I thought it was good organisation on the crews behalf.

The Freedom menu reappeared on the way home from HKG last week. [?]
It is a Freedom menu that we offer on board, we have had some new menus released and the word Freedom was taken off, I think they may be back on now, can't remember was in the galley this week! If you ever have me serving you, and you've never flown VS then I always tell you that it's a freedom service that we offer.
On certain sectors (Late departures ex LHR) we will try to get the service all done at once as most people will be wanting to get to sleep (HKG/DXB/DEL/BOM/JNB/CPT) so it will keep the noise and movement down in the cabin to enhance your ability to sleep. (I swear those are my words not from the manual!
)

We on our way home from Chicago a few weeks ago were not given the chance of any freedom at all. We were told our meals would spoil if we took our IFBT, therefore we would have to eat now and have the treatment when we woke up prior to landing.
One of the cabin crew was a sour faced trout and she was the one in Q.
She made us feel like we should be good boys and girls and go to sleep when it was a 6pm flight, following our meal.
The flight out was so very different, fantastic staff. This was our first trip in UC and the return journey was not great. The outbound though was fantastic. So much so we have decided to take the kidlets UC in August to Miami.

Ah the imfamous inconsistency of VS UC crews... have had some of THE BEST cabin crew in the world on VS UC and also some of THE WORST... [:0].

Should a crew member ever tell you you have to eat when they say then feel free to tell them, that it's a freedom service that is on offer and you will eat when you want! It may be that on certain routes the galley operator will put everything on due to time constraints on flights.
I do generally try to encourage eating early on on the return sector only due to trying to get back into UK time, so you can get as much sleep as is possible before we wake you for breakfast, or just before TOD. Granted I also like to push revivals at LHR!

We will have to see what happens on our next Uc flights in August, however we will be with the children, so will be wanting a quick meal and then sleep.

I have never had an issue with the freedom part of the menu whether or not it is printed on the menu. Being a relative newbie/convert to Virgin and UC I have found I have been able to eat what I want on all the many flights I have taken this year - and when I want with absolutely no issue or dismissive comments from CC. If you dont want to eat 'when it is ready' tell the CC when they take the order ....let them know when you are ready and within 30 mins or so hey presto your meal will be served
