Oh I am a native American and I get the fun questions when re-entering the USA (where I am a citizen). The darn computer list all my entries into the USA and they contrast that with my age.

Now enter the UK or any EU country; no questions and barely look at the passport. Can't make everyone happy. I wish other countries asked more questions or better yet had an Australia ETA-like system.

My experence in London in getting a Q1 visa was a nightmare - 8 hours it took for a very straightforward visa.

If everyone had to apply for a visa the system would grind to a halt. If this puts off that then I am for it - even though I really cannot see the difference between the API now and this new system.
