If you're flying UC can you use OLCI without printing off the boarding pass, then still use the UC check-in desk for dropping your bags and collecting a proper boarding pass?

I don't want to go to any efforts to print out a boarding pass from my hotel and then find I have to wait in a massive class-less bag drop queue.

Is there any point/benefit to UC pax using OLCI? I wondered if it helped avoiding your seat being allocated to someone else.

Hi,

I mostly check in online to secure my seat and not print my boarding pass and just to go the UC check in to get my boarding pass issued. It has never been a problem before.

Thanks Dominic

The UC check-in area is now entitled Upper Class Check-in and Bag Drop

Yes.

Frequently they reprint them anyway ... something to do with the poor quality of the online version.

I haven't observed one.

Other than the fact that they know you definitely intend to make the flight, I've experienced absolutely no benefit of OLCI for J flights.

Minor potential benefit is that if you book relatively late, and cannot get a seat pre-assigned which you particularly like, you will get a good selection of seats at OLCI opening time. It's probably less of a scrum at OLCI for UC that it is for Econ or even PE, good seats have often also been available early at the airport, but this could be considered a minor benefit. Other than that, nothing.

I just envisaged check-in agent Jane Doe's mate comes to check-in and fancy a bit of my seat. Jane notices that I haven't checked in yet and thinks the chances of me realising was seat-raped are minimal because of this.

I'm sure they could probably rob your seat at any time and blame it on operational reasons.

The post-OLCI email actually confirms that PE and UC can go to their own dedicated desks for bag drop. Seems deliberately excluded from the pre-OLCI information.

I always OLCI - when flying either VS or BA - and then use the appropriate check-in desk (UC or CW) UNLESS the Fast Bag Drop is significantly shorter (rare these days...). Never had a problem.

Snap

Always use OLCI, and never print the boarding pass out as in every experience I have had the check in team rip the paper up and hand me a proper boarding card.

Wonder when they will start to trial the BMI system of boarding card on your phone... now that is snazzy.
