Couple Travelling Upper Class

Hi Everyone, question about Upper Class seats

We've been allocated 6AK outbound which apparantly is ok because the seats are close together as they are at the front 'in the nose' (747LGW config)

On return we are in 8AK as 6 & 7 already reserved
From experience would we be better 8A and 9A to be closer or 8AK ok??

Looking forward to this trip, last travelled in UC 4 years ago and sat in 6A on the 'old' reclining leather seats which had a great view out of the window but hoping my 6'5 length will fit on the bed!!??

If we can't get 6A and K i always go for one behind the other so i would go for 8A and 9A.

I would also say that one behind the other would be better if you want to talk to your companion, as apart from 6AK, 7AK are the only other 2 seats that are close enough to talk without shouting.

Personally I would recommend seats where you have privacy from behind. Call me paranoid, but I feel very uncomfortable when someone sitting behind me can lean forward slightly and peer at whatever I'm watching on the entertainment system or what's on my laptop screen or what I'm eating. In the past it's been quite an unpleasant feeling. If you sit in the 12th row in the LGW config then you will have privacy from behind. As a couple you'd need to do 11 and 12. So couple member in row 11 would only have to deal with other couple member in row 12. Also when at the back of the cabin you have easiest access to the bar, WC and the exit when landed.

Sitting right at the nose cone... where the radar is emitting all sorts of EM radiation does not appeal. At least you'll be first to go in a nose collision or crash landing.

We were originally allocated 6A & 6D (Airbus LAX) which I have now changed to 6K & 7K

My partner is a very inexperienced flyer and I need to be fairly close at hand

I just hope I've made the right decision (and VS don't change them!)

I guess Andrew is simply trying to keep UC empty so he can have the bar to himself! [;)]

The aluminium skin of the cabin forms a highly effective Faraday Cage keeping out all radar frequencies.
No radar EM radiation there at all - weather radar is very low power anyway.
Or should we avoid every microwave oven, CRT TV and monitor? [}:)]

Mrs C and I did 8A and 9A and I felt we had the best configuration. She spent a lot of time chatting to the woman in 9K but its not really that close. I would recommend 8A/9A for a couple

Damn that explains a lot - I better get my IQ retested otherwise I'll have to sell up and move to Hull. Reason for retardness, flying Upper Class too much in the front row. [:w]

Thank goodness I don't use a mobile as much as I used to!

Our first UC flight was in 6 A&K, great seats apart from the lack of overhead bins and the ottomans are slightly closer to the seat (not so good if you're tall).

I would generally pick 8 A&K over 8A and 9A, but that's just my preference.

I agree with Dean on this, but it is personal preference. Plus, MrStars and I are goofy and like to watch funny movies at the same time and make eye contact/funny faces at each other during the funniest bits. Seats across from each other works better for this.

Once again you show a complete and utter disdain for His Grace that would beggar belief had it been spoken by any mountebank other than your self. Had you taken the time to check facts, you would have found that a simple Google search returns 35,700 results for retardness. Hardly the most common word on the planet (nor is His Grace one of the most common men!), but used with a frequency that recommends it for consideration to the Oxford English Dictionary, to be sure. Certainly, it comes more highly recommended than the vague, drunken verbalizations you emit in your Bar & Entrail Shack.

LOL! I wonder why all the folks living around Crystal Palace have three heads and nine limbs?

While at Lockheed Martin in Fort Worth a few years ago, I spent some time at the radar testing area that they used for the F-16 and Joint Strike Fighter. For testing, they fired the radar right at DFW a few miles distant. I would certainly not want to sit in front: they had a coned off semicircular area in front of the windowed radome with about 50 yards radius. We stood nonchalantly in white coats a few feet behind it drinking coffee. Strangely, the coffee was always piping hot [:p]

I have also spent many an hour in a Faraday Cage at ESA's R&D facility in the Netherlands here. I don't recommend it particularly. There's nothing on the telly.

...you can also add mobile/cell phones to that list as they are reasonably high powered trasmitters/receivers too (especially 3G handsets). You only need to place you mobile a foot or so away from your PC speakers & screen to see the result.

If you're referring to the effect a cell phone has on a CRT monitor (as opposed to LCD), then that is likely due to the magnet in the earpiece/loudspeaker/vibrate motor and not EM radiation.

The PC speakers thing is due to the intolerance of many devices to any EM radiation, where the cable to the speakers acts as an aerial and the audio amplifier (either in the speakers or in the PC itself) acts as a radio receiver. If you've ever wondered what those little cylindrical things are at the ends of cables, they're ferrite cores that are designed to make equipment less susceptible to EM interference.

A few years ago the CEO of Intel complained about the amount that EMI suppression regulations cost PC makers for certification purposes. He had to eat his words when he discovered he could make a whole lot more money from WiFi, and had there not been regulations on EMI suppression, WiFi wouldn't have worked half so well if at all.

It begs the question 'what is it that your watching that makes you you VERY uncomfortable if someone leans forward to see?'[}:)]
